This mini came in a set along with a full bottle whose bottom says 84, which means this was bottled around the year 1984.
Addendum: I tried a 1986 8/101 I have opened and this mini is confirmed inferior.
And yes, I have a dusty 8/101 opened at my house at all times. It's my favorite everyday bourbon.
A clear alcoholic sting on the nose initially (usually dusty Wild Turkeys are quite a bit milder which let's one appreciate the old, musky experience). As such, the nose is a bit closed on this one. After a few minutes in glass, the initial sting is gone, but the nose is still closed.
Clear dusty 8/101 on display here, with nice fresh yet subdued caramel, a bit of that hallmark muskiness, and cinnamon spice. Still, there's a bit of the spiciness that I detected initially on the nose.
A bit dry at the end. One of the oakier 8/101's I've come across. Actually, I'd probably rate this as the worst easily. Not sure if the fact that it's a mini has anything to do with the experience.
