    This Macallan 1982 was distilled from a time when Macallan was worth something and bottled in 2000 when in my view the rot was just starting to show regarding a dip in quality, Macallan these days is not a patch on these old 18 year olds.
    • Nose
      89 89
      Leather, shoe polish, dates, dark raisins, treacle sponge, slightly jammy.
      With time in the glass more fruit emerges, mainly blackcurrant & raspberry, basically the jam notes increase.
    • Taste
      89 89
      The initial mouthfeel is a good one with the sherry sweetness just about right with nice nose of various darker fruit jams but also some redcurrant with a dry pastry note.

      No fizz initially but a little peat does emerge which mingles with the sherry and fruit, my only gripe is that it lacks power so it is not a perfect balance, if it was I would not mention the power thing as some perfectly balanced old brown label Connoisseurs Choice are 40% and there is no lack of power there?
    • Finish
      90 90
      Not long but pleasantly sweet with some spice coming in at the end which elevates the experience by a couple of points.

    A wonderful Macallan and one of the last 'old' ones.

    Distinguished and more subtle in character but at the same time offering everything (!) you need from an old Mackie!

    Armin Fuchs and I again enjoyed this dram very much and also some good friends didn't hesitate to sip a little.
    • Nose
      Fresh oranges and berries (blueberry and black currant) and cherries.

      Dancing with orange peel, raisins and many different jams (i.e. dark plum jam, cherry jam, even a little apricot jam).

      Getting round surprisingly quick with a most pleasant subtle Sherry cask spiciness throughout - never too much, always in harmony. Old earthy notes (maybe even mushrooms) and a little maltiness. Scouring powder, leather, chocolate, also some cocoa powder, coffee. Maybe disappearingly faint hints of peat.

      The nose is elegant and distinguished, not very bold or pushing.
    • Taste
      'Cool' (even refreshing) at the beginning and very long with much scouring powder. Again the casks are present in a subtle and elegant way, giving spiciness and space.

      Fresh berries, jams, orange juice and peel.

      Some vanilla, not very much maltiness.

      Marzipan pralines, cocoa powder, coffee grounds, leater and some old wood later with earthy undertones.

      Interestingly fresh.
    • Finish
      Old Sherry casks with orange peel and scouring powder. Later raisins and roasted malt.

      Leather again, coffee grounds, dark chocolate and hints of pralines. The wood is very pleasant, just round and balanced but with a nice tartness.

    … a most beguiling Whisky -

    I didn't expect this … -

    yesss !!!
    • Nose
      From the bottle rises sweetness of red jams and the spiciness of a premium Sherry cask.

      Then: lemon, fat wood spice from the beginning, minerals (wet rock, maritime components), 'Sidolin' window cleaner, wood smoke, tart peat, tar, wood, a bit caraway, chocolaty hints, old potato linen sack, scouring powder, cherry brandy, malt, salt water;

      after the first sip:

      red jams (cherry, strawberry, currant) heavily peppered, sauce of 'Rheinischem Sauerbraten', french medium mustard with mustard seeds, dark roasted coffee beans, caramel mocha creme, upholstered armchair in a club, rum-cherry-jam, dark chocolate-cherry cake, 'Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte' (cake mass);

      after the second sip:

      sage, old furniture, hints of hair spray, pralines, honey mixed with butter, old roof truss in summer, bergamot peal, Cognac direction …

      In the end stands a homogeneous full and round interwoven complete artwork - wonderful!
    • Taste
      Citrus always, currant, a lot of cherries, strawberries, old pepper, withered plums, raisins, sparkling, deep wood, dark cakes, cherry brandy, dark chocolate, Paxarett, honey, bitter orange, in the distance some porcini mushrooms, a little sourness, empty wooden cask, wood, Cognac, mocha chocolate, old writing desk, dried garden spices, espresso powder, a bag of old dried sultanas, Demerara sugar, lemon, tobacco leaves (cigar), tart leather (satchel) ...
    • Finish
      Cherry brandy, chocolate, burnt cake with rum and cherry praline, cherry jam, sweetness (Demerara), cocoa powder, wood, sugar, dusty books;

      on the lips: aftertaste of butter, tobacco leaves, a little leather and vegetables (cooked), tart sweetness …

      very long ...

    The smell is unbelievably beguiling, elegant and yet intense. The taste is slightly off the smell, but you can only lose against this nose. The whisky is getting darker and tarter from the smell through the taste to the finish, but it never gets too much. A fantastic sherry whisky!
    • Nose
      The smell immediately takes up the entire room. No sharpness. Beguest sweet he rises in the nose. He is reminiscent of southern southern wines, Marsala. Behind it lies far in the background, but recognizable, something tart, leather. After a while juicy oranges are in the foreground, spiced with cloves. I do not want to drink, but inhale. Everything looks perfectly harmonious and round, but full of character.
    • Taste
      A creamy, rather light mouthfeel. Sweet wine notes and dark chocolate are in competition. But the bitterness is restrained, it is almost in the direction of whole milk. The sherry typical red dried fruits are also there: raisins, plums, sweet dates. And then comes oak.
    • Finish
      The finish is darker and tart than the impression in the mouth. The oak and the bitterness become stronger. Slight notes of espresso are added. The finish is quite long and reveals the age of whisky. The tongue sticks to the palate and requires more.
