[December, 2005]  Together with friends I emptied a bottle that I bought for 104 Euro in September, 2005.

[July, 2008]  Together with friends I emptied another bottle that I bought for 110 Euro in October, 2005.

In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this 87,5 and 85.  My notes state an easy to drink but otherwise unspectacular dram.  Whoever believes this tastes like a Macallan distilled in 1841 should do so - but I bet half of my a.. that the source bottle was a fake too (like the 1851).  Nevertheless a nice marketing gimmick...

The original was believed to have been young, between 6 and 10 years and had a remarkably fresh character when opened more than 150 years later. One of the first bottled whiskies. In 1841,most whisky was still sold by the cask.
    • Nose
Very fresh.Fudge with vanilla essence  and pistachio nuts.
    • Taste
Appetizing.Sweet but not cloying. Light ,fresh, delicate notes of orange-blossom honey.
    • Finish
A very gentle acidity provides a balancing  dryness.

Actually it improved quite a lot since the bottle was opened - it's now much fresher and fruitier - actually pretty drinkable or even enjoyable. Of course has nothing to do with the sherried Macallans and the pricing is way too high. I will though raise my rating a bit.
    • Nose
A little citrusy, lemony but also a bit grassy notes, touch of honey
    • Taste
Oily, waxy, pretty citrusy and lemony, green apples, tropical fruits too, pineapples, passion fruit, little wood notes
    • Finish
      Medium long

Pretty whishy-washy... I'd say this has not much to do with nowadays Macallans
