An interesting dram with a either-love-it-or-hate-it profile. I liked the taste but not the nose...
The colour is russetmuscat and the texture shows fast legs and some late tears. The nose is quite punchy and slightly cheesy first but gets more accessible over time. There is a significant lovage aroma that you either love or hate. Besides this it offers caramel, raisins, banana and some red wine (not port wine, interestingly) aromas. All in all not one of my favourite profiles, but it is interesting for sure.
The taste is very sweet (now the port wine shows up) with dark chocolate, oranges, toffee and tartaric acid flavours. Much better than the nose (according to my taste buds).
The dram arrives hot and peppery on the palate with a minor astringent feeling (tannins). The finish is long and quite sour and dry (like some wines) with interesting flavours of cloves. Water does not really improve the nose but the taste gets more balanced, I like it better with a fair share added.
