Whisky Reviews for Ledaig 2005 ANHA

8 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.13 points

  1. Segens scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Great experiment with a nice sherry Ledaig. Nothing spectacular but a nice dram for nice money.Without the bitter finish 87/88 for me.
    • Nose
dirty sherry nose with peat influence. The fruity part brings oranges and apricots where the peaty one brings oysters & sea salt as well as smoke.
    • Taste
you realize the dram is young but I would have guessed it a bit older. There is already a certain balance in this dram which brings some harmony on the sherry/peat dance.
    • Finish
a decent bitterness in the finish which is a bit too much for me and the youth shows up.

nose: sherry and peat a bit sulphury ...after breathing smoked fish, linseed oil..with breathing it opens up nicely..

mouth: overripe fruits, smoked meat, herbs .., again a bit sulphury...something is not balanced here

finish: long enough but the bbq notes are struggling with the burnt matches and the distillery's lemony and briny aspects don't get that well with the sherry's influence

with breathing the sulphury notes get more discreet and a better balance is achieved

Here shows up with strongly the daily form. Had tasted the whisky at a fair and bought the bottle a minute later, I thought so good. Today, the rest of the sample and it still tastes good, but a spontaneous purchase it would probably no longer become. In my evaluation, I meet for the time being in the middle.
    • Nose
nice musty, often referred to as a cowshed, with a good portion of sherry, dark fruits, leather & tobacco, iodine, with the time the smoke comes to the fore, a bit of citrus rather orange
    • Taste
Smoke, stronger than in the nose, again very musty, mixed with the rather dry sherry, beautiful combination, a touch of dark chocolate
    • Finish
the smoke lingers on the palate for a long time, in addition grape skin mixes and also the cow barn comes back again and again

The sherry was also refill is it, I think a castrating nothing. Pity. But this whisky is still very good and very nice!
    • Nose
The nose has fruity characteristics. Peat and smoke are present but a little camouflaged. Less austere than the bourbon version of Maltbarn (tasted f2f). The sherry touch brings a honeyed and resinous side. A little waxy.
    • Taste
Covering mouth. The spices are there but softer. The form is shorter and monolithic, the development is linear.
    • Finish
Dry down in the final. A bit short. No endless smoke coming back this time

  6. Bishlouk scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

The sherry leg is discreet, the mineral peaty side is not obscured. Pleasant to drink without asking an existential question. Special mention for the nose, particularly nice.
    • Nose
Dry smoke, straw, dust, dry wood. Afterwards, a thick layer of varnish appears, accompanied by a little honey. Still after, petrified yellow fruits. An evolving and changing nose.
    • Taste
The tastes are melted and mixed, hardly dissociable and identifiable. Alcohol does not hurt at all. Crushed stone, slate, dry smoke. A little caramelized apple.
    • Finish
Cold stony ashes and swirls of smoke. The (weak) fruit notes are gone.

There are lots of independent bottled Ledaigs from 2005 in the last years, but mostly from Bourbon Hogsheads. Normally they are very intense and have more then 60% vol. The nose of this refill sherry Ledaig leaves no doubt about the distillery: burnt rubber, ashes, peat, smoke, salt in a typical Ledaig combination. You hate it or you love it. When you love it, this one is great.

The sherry cask has a lot of influence in the nose. Sweet fruit aromas stay are pretty obvious but stay in the background. The palate is also typical Ledaig. Intense, smoky, salty but pretty smooth. The sherry influences are very well balanced in this combination. Bottled exact at the best age from my opinion. Water is not needed, calms him only done. The finish is rather short, only some sweet smoke aromas stay very long. Nice expression of a Ledaig!

again a nice vulgar bottling, in the nose almost scary, in the taste then complacent and rounder. No water! Excellent!
    • Nose
Pur: First, the full stinker attack, I immediately have a Wegschüttreflex, but stop! After a few seconds, a salt-crusty bacon note rises, Kassler, yes! In addition a Longrowartige smokiness with fish impact. Fierce! But somehow cool. Later, there will be some fruit added unnecessarily ... who likes it With water: still interesting, but gets a little flatter.
    • Taste
Pure: here you can see more of the sherry barrel paired with a beautiful, balanced sweet smoky notes and salt. Could now be a young Laphi or Laga from the Sherrytonne. The refill barrel was pretty active anyway. Oh yes: zero sharpness! With water: sweet, well-groomed, so normal and not necessarily better. Omitting.
    • Finish
      sweet smoke, come to stay.
