    Was a blind test.
Would never have come to Port Cask.
I didn't have the smoke either.

Nice specimen of an independently filled spring bench.

the nose is typical Springbank, on taste the sweetness of the portcask overrules a bit, but the finish is once again fully Springbank

deep red fruits, port fruits too, iron, minerals, mini whiff of smoke, earthy, cherries, wood tannins, oily, dark chocolate, whiff of diesel, salt and briny.
    • Taste

sweet red fruit, reminds me of gluhwein, sweet red wine, chocolate, whiff of pepper, dates.

  4. Dramming Dutchman scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Very nice dram, I like the finish best. Lots of fruits to discover here and some earthey flavours too, little dirty which I like by the way.

  6. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Beautiful port jumper, I like it very much and a little better than 2014, when I rated it for the first time. Maybe the time in the sample bottle was good for me.
    • Nose
Starts very fruity, red berries, but also creamy with vanilla, reminds me a bit of a strawberry cake, a clear pinch of pepper, so not spicy, but really the smell, nice spice, the berries then go more towards raspberry, now comes also chocolate, nice port influence, a few ground nuts, and above all there is a slightly dirty note, which I find very nice
    • Taste
wow, full-bodied, sweet, berries !, yes here also raspberry, a bit of strawberry, a nice potpourri, slightly floral, the mouth feels more dry, very berry, some vanilla in the background and also light caramel, good to drink at just under 52 %
    • Finish
here the nuts come again, here slightly perfume-like, now also slightly dark chocolate, pleasant, not too long-lasting

Very tasty combination of much heavier sweet and dark fruits through the port and the light smoke from Springbank.

  10. irrerelevant scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Syrup-like sweetness from the port, adhesive in beginnings, Brazil nut, thick port, fierce oak note, vanilla, the glue has disappeared after some time, there are Christmas spices in beginnings, the barrel looks fresh, mineral with some smoke, black powder, tingles, heavy dark fruit , winey mouthfeel, cocoa, full and dense, heavy and harmonious, with a little bit of water, the smoke is clearer, the Brazil nut is increasing ... nice single malt with a lot of aromas

As he says Conmai, he slowly rears up in the finish
    a good finish
    mmh, I like them indeed
    • Nose
      Mulled wine spices
      dark earth
      nice spices
      ripe cherries
when he rests more and more tanins and other forest odors
      spicy malt with resin
    • Taste
      unfortunately some alcohol
      plum fruits
      some chocolate
      malty on the palate
a beautiful softness that is unfortunately superimposed by a slightly pungent Alknote
    • Finish
      the barrel
      baked apple
      smashed cherries
      ever sweeter baked apple
as if the juice from the hot apple was flowing directly into your mouth

  13. wbarchive_73116 did not rate this whisky Expert Junior

Nice expression of Springbank with quite a substantial port sweetness. It is nicely balanced though, it is pretty powerful and spicy without water.
As it is the case with most Springbanks this one doesn't come cheap.
