Whisky Reviews for Bell's Original

9 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 63.97 points

  1. Slàinte Mhath scored this whisky 50 points Administrator

To come straight to the point, Bell's Original is cheap bottom shelf Blended Scotch which should not be tried neat. The nose is barely present. Indistinctly sweet and floral notes are suppressed by biting, alcoholic burn. There are faint hints of smoke and bitter sweetness on the palate, but the industrial grain whisky dominates it all. It's pointless to speak of the finish. The rough and metallic aftertaste confirms that Bell's is solely useful as a mix and stir whisky (although there are much better options), or to refuel your car in case you have run out of petrol.

Good taste with a tiny sweet notes. I tried it even with сigars: it is still good.

Well its drinkable but my palate is tuned to blends. The nose is light mainly on toffee. Unlike Slàinte Mhath I get very little alcohol burn with this, it is pretty tame even for a blend.

The palate is full of grain but its actually better than I was expecting, if you want an easy sipping cheap blend that does no challenge your palate this is fine.

I have had blends more expensive than this that were much worse.

I think its ok to be honest , certainly drinkable I used to hate Bell`s with a passion, this has changed my mind somewhat.

not my whisky, even the peaty side is not nice. too much young grain is what kills it in my opinion.
    • Nose
Grain, a bit of dust, cardboard; slight creaminess; lavender?
With time light peat comes through, then goes into sweet candy mode.
    • Taste
      sweet, thin, slight peatiness
    • Finish
      short, clean, some pepper

If you ever had to make a decision, say Cutty Sark and this, you have a fairly easy decision. Bought in error, I ordered a Bell's 8th miniature from DIOS, and those who were scrapped instead sent me this scorpion instead.
    • Nose
Light, soft, hazelnut malt. Unfortunately, on a deeper search, something of a gasoline alien. But the first impression seemed quite solid. (68 b)
    • Taste
The taste is already improving slightly, it is typically a light blend that can be bitten for a very inexpensive drink. (72 b)
