I expected the typical sherry notes here and was positively surprised in this regard. Bright, fresh fruits and liquid toffee or caramel are the hallmark of this whisky - 26.12.2018
    • Nose
Fresh, light fruits, beech wood, red grape, gooseberry, plum compote, liquid caramel and toffee, milk chocolate, crème brûlée, macadamia, overripe banana

With water: the whisky becomes softer and more fruity, apple, ripe pear, the toffee is still very present and covers the fruits
    • Taste
Monstrously sweet and strong, black pepper, bee honey, chocolate, creamy sweet, caramel, cough syrup, watery texture, to the end pushes through the oak aroma, walnut

With water: chocolate, less strong but slightly peppery, the woody flavors soften and turn into bitter walnut and dark chocolate
    • Finish
      Lang

    Single dram, blind session 2017 06 04
    • Nose
Tobacco, autumn leaves, brown sugar, meaty sulphur, 85 later, and depending on the dram just before, there were odd but faint traces of stinky swampgas 82

When those did not appear, 86
    • Taste
Peat, cheesy, sulphur, sherry, very sweet, 88
    • Finish
More sherry now, more matchheads, caramelized pears, faint ash & smoke from sulphur 86

  4. St. Pauli scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

The nose didn't actually sweep me from my feet, but the palate and finish are quite lively and versatile. All in all, this is a good whisky to enjoy in good company.
    • Nose
Very damp and musty, combined with ultra sweet dried fruit of date, prune and of course raisins (both white and dark). It has this dessert wine / PX smell, which dominates too much imho. Some creamy vanilla shines trough, and a little bit of mint. Later, the dried fruit evolves slowly into tinned peach on syrup.
    • Taste
Not too sweet at all… In fact, it's rather in you face, with an attack of wood, spices (cinnamon, pepper, cardemom), some sourish notes from the sherry, and then some dried fruit. It gets a bit tannic (grape seed) from the mid palate, but it's very much alive.
    • Finish
Quite long, and both fresh and spicy. It has the freshness of orange juice, sour sherry notes, but the spice of the wood. Along with that, there is a syrupy and honeyed taste that lingers.
