Whisky Reviews for Hankey Bannister 40-year-old

- Master of Malt do a 3cl sample of this for £65.77, their sample prices are a joke, I am tempted but not at that price.
- N: Utterly fragrant, never medicinal nor too sweet with unsalted white butter, vanilla, blackcurrant 'Tunes' cough sweets and light toast with soft creamy wood notes. A malt of impressive clarity which delivers direct to the nose, brilliantly blended and integrated.
T: Thin watery arrival which soon collects a depth of flavour to show its rich maturity. It develops all the time, becomes waxy and oily - almost putty like. Excellent integration between spirit and casks.
F: Woody freshness and charred wood with lots of vanillas leads to a drying, waxy, rubbery finish. Bitter charred vanillas remain.
C: Excellent stuff although the palate doesn’t quite live up to the promise of the nose. On a blind tasting i’d unlikely think of this as anything less but a single malt. High calibre blend with a high calibre price tag.
