Whisky Reviews for Ballindalloch 1989 MBl

  1. mibhaegar scored this whisky 89 points Expert Junior

Simple and straightforward: 89 points for me throughout. A whisky that fits into my current loot scheme and somehow still transports a few impressions from an old whisky era, even if we were already in whisky hype mode in 2014. The drinking strength of 45% is completely sufficient for the all-round successful whisky experience.
    • Nose
A very typical sherry scent of berries that comes straight out of the glass. However, it's not just the red forest berries that I would have expected. Rather, it is gooseberries, figs and fruits such as sour cherries and mandarins that I notice. A spicy note of clove is noticeable underneath. An oak wood aroma can also be heard, albeit very subtle and far away from a fresh oak load. Overall, I like it very much and there is something very traditional about it that I rarely have in my glass these days.
    • Taste
The good drinking strength of 45% is currently perfect for me, it does not always have to be the brutal barrel strength above 60%. This is very clear with this whisky, very straightforward at the start, but also full-bodied and round. A higher alcohol content does not have to be here at all, it fits! In addition to the fruits, I discover dark chocolate and walnuts. As in the nose, the wood is discreetly held back. Overall, if I were to say that it wasn't that complex, that would sound negative, so I would like to call it uncomplicated. With it I like to sit around the campfire on a mild autumn evening and sip one glass after the other.
    • Finish
The finish is also uncomplicated, but more than medium-long. Here, the wood notes are still most evident in the aftertaste, but the dark chocolate still lingers on the palate and throat.

Nose: lots of vanilla, pears, gooseberries, nectarine and rapeseed. Geraniums.

Mouth: wonderfully round, full, charming. Straight, tasty, uncomplicated - a tasty-tasting to wegsüffeln. Mirabelle and apricot. Medium density.

Finish : yellowish fruit, hint of spices, rather short, round.

Conclusion: complex is different, rather simple knit, but what he has is good. Clean and enormously tasty.

    Tasting Notes by the Bottler:

Nose: Hints of pears with some cherry and vanilla.

Palate: Very smooth with some butterscotch toffee, toffee apple, walnuts and sugared almonds.

Finish: Spiced cloves, honey, chocolate and some subtle sherry.
