Beautiful whisky. Mainly tart red/purple fruits (red apple, all sorts of berries, plums) with slight background hints of dried citrus and tropical fruits + bittersweet dark chocolate, caramel, roasted malt. Some spicy and floral notes add complexity. My only gripe - I cannot escape the feeling that I want more ABV, more intensity, to really put me into paradise! Glad to have tried it though.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Apple pies, sponge cake, big wafts of caramel and chocolate. Spice and crushed almonds.
Cherry, honey and plenty of oak. More spice than the nose. Classic old
leather notes and apple peels. Dried fruits and vanilla.
Finish: Brown sugar and rich oak - quite long.
Overall: Big and packed with fruit, though balanced with oak and leather - what a dream!

    Tastingnotes by Glengoyne
    • Nose
The classic Glengoyne apple character is at its heart, with complementary notes of papaya, mango and coconut giving a beautiful scent that can only come with decades in oak. Aged leather, Victoria sponge, dried citrus peel, honeycomb and saffron.
    • Taste
A great oily texture that instantly coats the mouth with a burst of fruit. A whisky to hold on the palate for a long time as it keeps developing, with dried fruit, floral notes and gentle spice becoming almost creamy after time.
    • Finish
The tropical fruit intensity returns and lingers at the back of the throat while the whisky becomes slowly drier, with liquorice, brown sugar and dark chocolate beautifully balanced. A whisky not to be rushed!

Distilled in the 1970’s and 35 years in the making, this rich malt is full of tropical fruit intensity - with a liquorice and dark chocolate finish. It is an exceptionally rare spirit: there are only 500 decanters available worldwide.

Each hand-blown decanter is engraved, numbered, collared in gold with a crystal stopper. The gull-wing box is solid oak, hand-crafted, bespoke. The leather? Hand-stitched and Bentley-red.

I lost my tasting notes for this but i remember well trying this beautiful ‘dream dram’ at the Whisky Exchange Show 2014. I clumsily lost a few drops from my small plastic beaker [end of the day stuff], so I duly licked them off the table with my tongue - partly in jest ill add. But don’t judge me - with a 3cl sample currently at MoM for £175 [Sept ’15], every drop counts.

I had just come out of the amazing Gordon & Macphail’s - ‘A New Generation’ massterclass INFO, so wasn’t in the mood for anything less than spectacular. This was right up there with the same weight, thickness, density and provenience as those old G&M masterpieces with complexity and movement to match. Read Anja’s notes [below], they are very good.

One of the best Glengoyne’s i’m likely to try. Top draw malt.

    my associations with this whisky
an old apple tree knotty, woody
    full of ripe sweet apples
leathery and woody is the shell of the apples
Its interior soft and aromatic sweet as if cooked
with the taste of gnarled wood
    and intense spices

only, the finish was too dry

    Yes, I'm in heaven
    • Nose
      raisin chocolate
      the skin of plums
      old barrel
warm applesauce of ripe sweet apples
      the apple skin slightly caramelized
      Cinnamon & clove powder
      candied peel
All notes have damp old wood in the background
I would like to have that on my tongue now
    • Taste
      full aroma
      very spicy
      almost peppery on the tongue
on the palate chocolate with raisins
an old apple variety, very ripe, crumbly and sweet
but also spicy with a fine acidity
and again the old damp wood is always there
      Vanilla and apple peel
    • Finish
salty with the old damp wood
something of the typical Glengoyne bitterness
      getting dry
      bitter apple peel
      slowly getting sweeter
the apple is coming more and more
