  1. Drk Neknul scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

Eye / Nose: Bright, brilliant gold. Any smoke has basically almost completely evaporated over the decades. Light fruits dominate. Crushed amarettini, juicy pears, yellow apples, wax, almost as if the apples had not been thoroughly stripped of their protective wax layer. A very pleasant, somewhat bitter, "dusty" sweetness, as often found in old bottlings, but not the classic old bottle flavor with a slight hint of acetone.

Palate: Not watery - but rather light with its 43%. The taste is quite spicy and of medium sweetness. Grassy and fruity elements complement each other. Creamy. Vanilla sugar, a little caramel. In addition, spicy aromas from three decades of oak storage and influences of cayenne pepper.

Finish / Conclusion: medium-long aftertaste, light blossom honey gives way to fine, floral and grassy notes and restrained bitter almond. Nutshells. The oak spice is now more evident than on the palate. I cannot taste weaknesses in the sense of real bad notes.
All in all a well-balanced, very successful Bourbon Springbank from a bygone era.

PS: Further tastings have shown that this malt, with its many years of maturity and many years in the bottle after uncorking, still benefited significantly from oxidation. The profile gained more sweetness and became more harmonious, so that I was able to adjust the rating from 89 to 91 points now.

[November, 2000]  I had this dram during a Springbank rarities tasting at Rolandsbogen.  In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this
    90.  My notes state a somehow strange (a little bit mouldy) nose and a light, smooth body.  It has a sweet flavours profile and a medium finish.
