[July, 2018]  A quick review of a small sample because I want to check the profile of Allt-A-Bhainne from time to time (that is a blending malt only - so usually it is not very impressive as a single malt release).

A typical blending malt not intended to be bottled as a single release - so why they bottled it?  Because of the huge Allt-A-Bhainne fan base out there?  Another dispensable dram, to be honest...

The colour is jonquiripe corn and the texture shows a small sticky ring with a few late tears. The nose offers the typical grassy and autumn floral profile most blenders prefer for their base malts (it provides substance without adding too much flavours so they can deliberately add wanted aromas from other high-profile malts with lower quantities needed). Nevertheless this is subtle and flawless, just very simple.
    • Taste
      82 82
The taste is sweet on barley sugars and some honeys with light floral and grassy notes.
    • Finish
      78 78
The initial mouthfeel is a little warming but not really coating. The finish is rather short and shows a bitter-drying end (plastics, cardboards). Water turns the dram flatter but more approachable and it takes away some of the unpleasant bitter finish - I like it best somewhat reduced.

Light & fresh with a nice sherbet zest.

Excellent aperitif whisky for a sunday afternoon.
    • Nose
Light and sweet. Starts grassy followed by honey and vanilla. Some yellow apples. Flowery notes as well.
    • Taste
Unexpectedly punchy for its 46%. Toasted oak. Sugard almonds. Cinnamon. Liquorice at the background.
    • Finish
Medium long. Dry. Lots of bitterness of pink grapefruit. Gingery. Oine and spearmint
