I believe there is a difference in opinion about this dram. But if you stay attentive as an Irish fan, it turns out that this type of maturation is always worth a try. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether the PLV still fits the requested price. He's a little too inconspicuous for me. For less than 100 EUR it could become house whiskey
    • Nose
Only one word fits: fruit basket! But really something versatile and tasty. I don't want to list any fruits here individually, because he doesn't have that. No dominant fruit that is worth mentioning. But a tasty nose. Respect.
    • Taste
Oily and soft, intense and graciously sweet with extra fruit notes. So a little the feeling of a whole hand full of wine gums. Really special! Also malty enough to stay a tasty Irishman. The price doesn't bother me anymore. But, very spicy. Wood opponents beware.
    • Finish
Medium to long but easy and dry. It stays sweet and doesn't get bitter. But the finish could be more exciting.

Irish whiskey are triple distilled and therefore very mild.
    It's a shame that the gentleman only has 40% alc. Has;
46 to 50% would certainly do the already soft whiskey good.
    • Nose
      Pear compote, cloves, custard,
Pickled peaches, plum compote, ripe grapes, raisins.
Nutty aromas mix in the faintly perceptible wood notes.
    • Taste
      Very creamy mouthfeel
Again custard, now also oranges / mandarins
Nuttiness can be clearly tasted (oily / nutty).
The wood notes are clearly more present than in the smell, but are gently and elegantly integrated.
    • Finish
      medium
dry (certainly due to the wood and sherry influence)

  3. Bowmore Axel scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

When the bottle was freshly opened, I gave 86 points.
After 1 month it has already improved to 88.
Now well deserved 90 points. Despite the low
    Alcohol strength.
    • Nose
      91 91
Very gentle, just a slight tingling. Plum and light
      sour grapes. Balsamic wood notes.
      Gets better and better.
    • Taste
      91 91
Oily, flattering on the palate. Pleasant drinking strength.
Just a slight tingling sensation despite chewing for minutes.
Peach, apple, honey, cigar box aromas. Splendid.
A little nutty. Might like a few% more.
    • Finish
      88 88
Balsamic. Long. Cigar box, fruity, nutty.
Slightly drying out. Delicately bitter at the end.

Tasted in the fluted glass by Olaf Tappert

Dangerously easy to drink - I usually divide a 5cl sample over 2 evenings - I was not able to do this here - the palate demanded more
The different perception of the aromas in the nose, mouth and finish is interesting. You should have tried this drop. Great

Leave in a jar with a lid for about 10 minutes before nosing
It flows out of the glass intensely fruity, Haribo Color-Rado! Sweet wine gum of different colors, almost tropifrutti, but also a little liquorice. The intensity of the fruits is gone, you can sniff them away. Once again, sweet apples or Turkish apple tea are dominant. Definitely special and strikingly different from previously tasted malts. Almost artificial and perfumed, which leads to minimal devaluation
    • Taste
      87 87
Very soft mouthfeel. First malt sweetness, then spices, a little Caro coffee, then caramel and dark dried fruit, remarkably mild due to the 40%
    • Finish
      91 91
Oak without tannins, seasoning without any bitterness, milk coffee with macadamia syrup, chocolate-coated sultanas and nuts
Here age dominates the only 40% alcohol, because it is present for a long time.

[October, 2015]  I emptied a bottle that was a present to me in March, 2015.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5.  My notes state a very fruity and sweet profile that is very quaffable...

Wish I could someday see a higher ABV than 40%. That would be the dream. This is one of my favorites. Worth every penny.

    - one of the best Irish whiskeys I know
    - unfortunately "only" 40%
    - an absolute top whiskey from NORTHERN Ireland
    • Nose
you can smell old age, the noble smell of dark berries, spices, Madeira wine
    • Taste
Grapes, honey, spice cakes, dark chocolate, maybe vanilla, very elegant and delicious
    • Finish
      long-lasting, harmonious, warm finish with dark chocolate and a beautiful Madeira taste;
      soft, sweet, warm aftertaste
