Wish I could someday see a higher ABV than 40%. That would be the dream. This is one of my favorites. Worth every penny.

  7. Malthead19 scored this whisky 93 points Connoisseur

    - one of the best Irish whiskeys I know
    - unfortunately "only" 40%
    - an absolute top whiskey from NORTHERN Ireland
    • Nose
you can smell old age, the noble smell of dark berries, spices, Madeira wine
    • Taste
Grapes, honey, spice cakes, dark chocolate, maybe vanilla, very elegant and delicious
    • Finish
      long-lasting, harmonious, warm finish with dark chocolate and a beautiful Madeira taste;
      soft, sweet, warm aftertaste

  8. herby.usa scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Irish whiskey are triple distilled and therefore very mild.
    It's a shame that the gentleman only has 40% alc. Has;
46 to 50% would certainly do the already soft whiskey good.
    • Nose
      Pear compote, cloves, custard,
Pickled peaches, plum compote, ripe grapes, raisins.
Nutty aromas mix in the faintly perceptible wood notes.
    • Taste
      Very creamy mouthfeel
Again custard, now also oranges / mandarins
Nuttiness can be clearly tasted (oily / nutty).
The wood notes are clearly more present than in the smell, but are gently and elegantly integrated.
    • Finish
      medium
dry (certainly due to the wood and sherry influence)

  9. Bowmore Axel scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

When the bottle was freshly opened, I gave 86 points.
After 1 month it has already improved to 88.
Now well deserved 90 points. Despite the low
    Alcohol strength.
    • Nose
      88 88
Very gentle, only slight tingling. Plum and light
      sour grapes. Balsamic wood notes.
      Gets better and better.
    • Taste
      92 92
Oily, flattering on the palate. Pleasant drinking strength.
Just a gentle tingling sensation despite chewing for minutes.
Peach, delicate bitter greapfruit, honey, cigar box aromas. Splendid.
A little nutty. Might like a few% more. Michelle and Herbert say he also has passion fruit like older bottlings from Teeling.
Do I have to pay close attention to it again with the next glass. :O)
    • Finish
      90 90
Balsamic. Long. Cigar box, fruity, bitter greapfruit, nutty.
Slightly drying out. Delicately bitter at the end.

Tasted in the fluted glass by Olaf Tappert

Dangerously easy to drink - I usually divide a 5cl sample over 2 evenings - I was not able to do this here - the palate demanded more
The different perception of the aromas in the nose, mouth and finish is interesting. You should have tried this drop. Great
    • Nose
      89 89
Leave in a jar with a lid for about 10 minutes before nosing
It flows out of the glass intensely fruity, Haribo Color-Rado! Sweet wine gum of different colors, almost tropifrutti, but also a little liquorice. The intensity of the fruits is gone, you can sniff them away. Once again, sweet apples or Turkish apple tea are dominant. Definitely special and strikingly different from previously tasted malts. Almost artificial and perfumed, which leads to minimal devaluation
    • Taste
      87 87
Very soft mouthfeel. First malt sweetness, then spices, a little Caro coffee, then caramel and dark dried fruit, remarkably mild due to the 40%
    • Finish
      91 91
Oak without tannins, seasoning without any bitterness, milk coffee with macadamia syrup, chocolate-coated sultanas and nuts
Here age dominates the only 40% alcohol, because it is present for a long time.

  12. Kaleva scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Really nice whiskey, with complex multi-layered very unusual nose and sweet fruity palate. 3 different cask types influence can be recognized here and the result is very balanced. For quite a while this expression was hard to find obviously to the lack of distillery stock but now it looks like it's returning back (however, with significantly higher price).
    • Nose
Sweet and a bit closed, fruity with ripe red apples and dark plums, maybe a bit of mango, honey notes, later comes sherry (dried fruits, toffee), cafe au lait, almost insensible tones of oak
    • Taste
Fresh, medium-sweet, peach, tropical fruits (banana, mandarines, passion fruit), fruit bubble gum, nutty notes
    • Finish
Medium-long, sweet, walnut shell, some mushroom notes, hint of oak

  13. Moses scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

I believe there is a difference in opinion about this dram. But if you stay attentive as an Irish fan, it turns out that this type of maturation is always worth a try. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether the PLV still fits the requested price. He's a little too inconspicuous for me. For less than 100 EUR it could become house whiskey
    • Nose
Only one word fits: fruit basket! But really something versatile and tasty. I don't want to list any fruits here individually, because he doesn't have that. No dominant fruit that is worth mentioning. But a tasty nose. Respect.
    • Taste
Oily and soft, intense and graciously sweet with extra fruity notes. So a little the feeling of a whole hand full of wine gums. Really special! Also malty enough to stay a tasty Irishman. The price doesn't bother me anymore. But, very spicy. Wooden opponents beware. 40%, ... too little.
    • Finish
Medium to long but easy and dry. It stays sweet and doesn't get bitter. But the finish could be more exciting ..., there is too little texture pressure at 40%.

A great balanced, complex, noble, mature Irish Single Malt - individually numbered - in a beautiful package - at an acceptable price!
    • Nose
      93 93
      noble smell, dark berries, Christmas spices and Madeira wine;
    • Taste
      93 93
      grapes, honey, spice cake, dark chocolate, a little vanilla;
    • Finish
      92 92
      long-lasting, harmonious warm finish;

Not worth the called price. Overall, too trivial.
    • Nose
      85 85
a little citrus and sweetish note. grassy notes. minimal stinging.
    • Taste
      87 87
Sweet at the beginning. light tingle, oak. Hardly any fruit. despite the low alcohol content comes here with proper pepper. I think the barrels have already given a lot. Are also x-refill barrels mMn.
    • Finish
      85 85
      again very woody, dry finish.

[October, 2015]  I emptied a bottle that was a present to me in March, 2015.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5.  My notes state a very fruity and sweet profile that is very quaffable...

  19. Kaltduscher scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

A sweet fruit cocktail with a great nose. Nevertheless, the Malt seems too lax, a few more volume percent alcohol would have done him good. For the called price no purchase recommendation.

  24. Bishlouk scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Sherry nose, on raisins, tobacco and spices. Fresh menthol after aeration. A little soft in the mouth at first contact, then it balances. A certain "hardness" in the mouth, a lot of spicy wood and slightly smoked. Finely peppery, fruity dryness. If reduced, reduction well controlled. Pleasant as a whole, with a small flat on the mouth that contains a "something" that is new to me, but a little "weird".
    (tasted blind)

  25. Gloin scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

I like the smell very well, very sweet and soft, like a dessert. The taste joins seamlessly, as does the finish. Everything is very coherent, if a bit smooth. A dessert whiskey that might give a little more power a few percent more.
    • Nose
Gentle, caramel, grapes, rather white than red, hints of sugared lime, dessert wine, zabaione
    • Taste
Very soft body, the onset shows a short pungency, then the whiskey becomes soft and sweet, like a dessert, vanilla ice cream, sauternes, malt
    • Finish
Sweet, vanilla and caramel, malt, then oak with a delicate bitterness, very vinous, medium long
