Not a bad Kininvie at all. This is my third expression I had so far. They all lack complexity and depth though. Morevover they are far too expenive for its rarity. Hopefully Kininvie will become more available in the coming years.
    • Nose
Starts malty. Sweet barley, Lots of porridge. Later on some flowery notes of freesias and geraniums. Vanilla and honey at the background. A little cardboardy.
    • Taste
More bananas and coconut now. Also melon. Toasted oak. Sugared almonds. Custard powder. Marshmellows. A little thin on the palate in my view.
    • Finish
      Medium long. Cinnamon. Toffee. Liquorice.

[August, 2015]  I bought bottle no. 02572 for 60 Euro in April, 2015.  These carefully selected casks for the first ever release of the Kininvie sngle malt are indeed very delicate and I can understand why the blenders claimed all the stocks so far...  This is certainly NOT a whisky for Islay style lovers or "oompf" fans - but if you like balance and the complexity of virtually hundreds of different flavours in a flowery/fruity/nutty profile, this is a must try.

The Kininvie distillery itself is a rather unspectacular ribbed roof building that hides in the huge Glenfiddich/Balvenie complex (just pass Balvenie distillery to the left and after two warehouses you see a garage style building to your left that can be easily overlooked).  Nevertheless, this malt should be bottled more often as I am curious if future releases can keep up with the excellent profile of this 17 year old.

PS:  This dram takes some time to open up to its full potential - and always remember to warm the glass to body temperature before nosing/tasting it!

Delicious, tasty malt that is easy to drink, but not much more.
    • Nose
Apple, fruity, apricot, honey, vanilla, thyme, rosemary, orange oil, toffee, cereals, brown sugar, beautiful malt and raisin wedges

The scent of this whisky is an experience in itself, wonderfully complex. You can smell wonderfully sweet and slightly peppery notes.
The taste is silky, take the time to roll in the mouth and the sweet taste is a sensation! The aftertaste is slightly tufted, stays sweet and seems somewhat cinnamon. Keep enjoying. I am really pleasantly surprised, a gem !!
    • Nose
Pleasantly dry, sweet and slightly peppery. Promises what!
    • Taste
Sweet, dried fruit and a little pepper / cinnamon.
    • Finish
Taste sensation continues, stays long and aromas of peat appear.

    A very pleasant drop ...
Round and velvety, reminiscent of Balvenie ...
But seems "thicker", and also felt sharper finish than Balvenie ...
Although this kininvie comes up with "only" 42.6%, I find that at least 1.5 ml. Water should be added to 2 cl. Whisky ...

    floral sweetness!
in fact, it is very sweet, we feel the fruit a little stewed, honey very present, a little cream, lemon back slightly and vanilla.
a little damp wood and menthol.
