- On the nose you can smell precious wood, varnish, bitter almond (frangipane?), Vanilla, red fruits and spices. Everything is so well dosed it works perfectly Pfoua is high flight In the mouth we go down a bit of a level but the nose took me very high. Beautiful density on precious wood, varnish, vanilla, spices and berries, berries (not just cherry as weller). All perfectly executed Long finish on red fruits mixed with dried fruits before becoming more spicy linzer torte, gingerbread. 93 for the nose 91 for the mouth and the finale
Soft. Berries, raisin, a whiff of vanilla. None of the typical over-oaky notes that bourbons over 12 years tend to get.
More minty, more spicy. Still berries and little oak. With water there's a bit of orange juice, not fresh but from concentrate.
More oak now. Nuts and cherry.
- fantastic complexity and lots of dunnage nose and flavour.
- This nose ... a DELUGE of caramel and coconut. Gorgeous. Like an old grain whiskey. But the spices indicate that one has to deal with a bourbon. Later chocolate. In the mouth, we find these feelings with a wooded a little too marked. Final on cherries and spices marked. With water, the nose is more than anything - all things considered since we start from very high! - let's say there is less greed. In the mouth, it is more about caramel with a drought very marked, the latter endures long in the final.

Pine resin, strong bourbon notes with raisins on brandy - boeren jongens.
Corn, resin, raisins and a bit soapy.

- The cask spent 9 years in Kentucky, and then was shipped to Scotland, where it spent the rest of its life. This explains why the oak is much less prominent than one might expect from a 17 yo bourbon. The complexity is incredible, deep fruit notes, as well as dark chocolate, leather, vanilla, and a bit of tobacco. The finest American whiskey I have ever tasted.

- This cask is from just before the fire
On November 7, 1996, Heaven Hill's production plant (registered plant DSP-KY-31) was almost completely destroyed by fire. The fire started in an aging warehouse and spread to other buildings and vehicles. 90,000 barrels of flammable bourbon were consumed. A “river of fire” flowed from the warehouses. From one account of the fire: “Flames leapt hundreds of feet into the air and lit the sky throughout the night. Witnesses reported seeing whiskey barrels explode and rocket across the sky like shooting stars ... a two-mile long stretch of the creek that supplied process water to the distillery was set ablaze for a brief time.
