Conservative 93 points. I would boldly claim this is the best sherried Bowmore of the past 20 years, including IBs like the 17 On Small Step. Speaking of "new Bowmore", after the horrible 1980s, the soap, parma violets and lavender tragedy.
I had 2 bottles of this one, the first in 2012 after a raving 92 point whiskyfun review. Back then, I served this to friends in a row with other malts I had open at that time - Port Ellen 6th release, Lagavulin 21 1985 and Brora 30 5th release. While the Brora and Laga is 94-96 point material, still this one didn´t step out of the line in quality.
Reviewers already described the taste, so I´m just here to underline the quality and to grade definite 93 points for this dense, complex and unusual (since it´s rather "broad and wide" than "fresh and sharp" as the other 90s Bowmores) islay sherrybomb.
ps: The Devil´s Cask releases are a total shame in comparison!

  2. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

There are just a lot of great sherry bowmores and that's one of them.
    • Nose
The nose cries Bowmore, very sherry-heavy and there is also this floral note, which is often associated with the violet, pleasant slightly salty smoke, tidy chocolate, dark, a really fatty nose
    • Taste
intense, oily, fruity, with nice sweetness, violets, sherry, medium smoky level, ashen, dark chocolate, overall rather dry mouthfeel, dark fruits, raisin sauce, a breeze of salt, you can really chew, great integrated alcohol
    • Finish
creamy, chocolate, chopped nuts, the smoke is weaker, the whole mouth is still full of aromas, very pleasant

This is a whisky, big Bowmore, the whole pallet of the distillery behind the sherry.
    • Nose
Big sherry, prune, milk chocolate, salt and gunpowder.
    • Taste
Sherry, peat, plenty of fruits, salt, tar, smoke, mint, cocoa and orange oil.
    • Finish
      Long, sweet, smoky.

    Bowmore Tasting Notes

Nose: Aromas of demerara sugar, prunes and cherry chocolate liqueurs are complemented with lightly smoked oak chips.

Palate: Incredibly complex with rich cocoa butter, burnt zesty orange peel and dark chocolate underpinned with a dry peat smokiness.

The finish is long and sweet with just a hint of peat smoke.
