I am very stunned! The barrel sets the tone, but skillfully! A great sherry oak club! 90 points for me, but it's clearly just for lovers of bitter whiskys!
    • Nose
First a dust-dry sherry wall! Dark dried fruit, tire abrasion, herbs, wood. The alcohol does not sting, but transports the flavors so intense that you only perceive that first. Then the nose opens. Plums and raisins crystallize out. Cinnamon biscuits, but not very sweet. Peppery herbs, hard leather sole. The dust-dry wooden board lets more and more other flavors happen. Again some gum, heavily roasted coffee! Rosemary, nutmeg. Very dark chilli chocolate embroidered with prunes. Water : Water tames the whisky a bit, emphasizes the pastry note, but softens it slightly.
    • Taste
Full, first comes the dark fruit. After a few seconds, the harsh side of the whisky rolls up. Seasoning develops, the oak tingles all over the mouth, it is an astringent reading mouthfeel, the strong espresso provides the lateral mouth area with bitterness. Nevertheless, the tormenting does not (as I expected) completely merciless. Even a tender sweetness pictures themselves. But you do not get me wrong: The whisky is harsh and fruity-dry! The Nachschmecken is like a piece of 99% chocolate with fruit component. The alcohol is not aggressive, with all the flavor cargo I did not notice it. Water : With water, it is almost soft and creamy in the mouth, at first less harsh, but towards the end, the dry tart again and dominates the nachschmecken again.
    • Finish
The whisky remains long and intense in the mouth and throat. Dry and kräutrig is the Departure with fading fruit (only plum).

    (59,4%, OB 2014, Oloroso sherry butt #199, 576 btl.)

Nose: heavy sherry, with classic coffee and dark fruit cake. Dates and raspberry vinegar. Slightly heathery, which evolves to waxed oak and polished leather. Lots of toasted notes, walnuts and chestnuts. A bit of chocolate. Good balance of darker, smoky sherry and fruitier top notes. Mouth: thick and pretty wide again, although a bit on the dry side. Tobacco leaves and cedar wood, dark chocolate, strong espresso, stewed prunes. Plenty of herbal / roasted notes and walnut skin. A hint of rubber and burnt hay as well. Finish: long, fairly herbal, with plenty of oak spices and dark, bitter chocolate.

A good one, especially if you like them dark and roasted.

    Score: 88/100
