Today I'm trying something a bit different. About 4 months ago, I received a bunch of samples of Glendronach single cask bottlings - 7 in all. Casks 1487, 3025, 326, 3397, 1346, 2971, and 494. Let's see how this one tastes.

Nose starts with golden brown sugar, stewed fruits, then some faint chocolate, perhaps a touch of mint floating through now.

Palate begins with chocolate syrup, more stewed fruits, raisins, oak tannins, ash.

Finish is raisins, chocolate, oaky bitterness that is not distracting, and a touch of pepper, and some ash which moderately lingers.

To me this is a little bit underrated relative to the ratings it gets. However, it is a different style. To me, this reminded me of the Yamazaki Sherry Cask (form 2013) that I have. Like the Yamazaki, it has some of those same bitter notes which are both very pleasing, and also somewhat unique and different than what I found in many of the other Glendronach. That's why I actually preferred this bottle to some of the others from the Batch 10 release. It's interesting, and in my opinion, a very good, somewhat different style of Glendronach.
