While I think this is a nice and interesting malt – well-made, if you know what I mean – I did like the first release much better (I cannot judge the second one). Thanks, Manny!
    • Nose
Aromatic nose – albeit sugary sweet – on caramel, cherries, peach, banana, litchi and white chocolate. There is also a hint of grapefruit in the background, just like some oranges and vanilla. Even further back – almost hidden – is a mild salty breeze.
    • Taste
It is quite creamy and piquant. Toffee apples come first, then some citrusy notes and finally some plums and peach. Yes, this is very fruity, but nutmeg, white pepper and loads of toasted oak make it a lot spicier than the nose made you anticipate. Some honey and toffee soften things up a little. From the second sip forwards, the fruit evolves towards the candied and dried variety.
    • Finish
The long finish remains spicy and sweet, with some nuts at the death. Right before it disappears, a touch of bubblegum rears its head.

    (Tasted blind)
NOSE: Marzipan, nice wood. Takes water well, improves; dried yellow fruits, banana (88-90p)
TASTE: The arrival is concentrated, on the mid palate rich, creamy and some wood. Takes water very well, improves; becomes more oily. Still a bit woody. (86-87p)
FINISH: Oily, long, some black pepper. (85-87p)
    OVERALL: Total score 87 points.

the price is a joke for such an ordinary whisky

A nice whisky. Would I pay the prices I see on the right, no way.

Before a drop of water I would have given it 83 but after adding the few drops it opened up and 87.
    • Taste
      85 85
Lots to discover but also spicy, I did not see that coming.
    • Finish
      86 86
      Medium long, spicy, sweet.

I really don't get the point of this. The marketing ad the packaging seem far more important than the actual whisky. Maybe I'm missing something and I need to try it again, but certainly not worth the hundred odd quid I paid for it.
    • Nose
      Solvents, Vanilla, oak, sherry.
    • Taste
Hot chilli. Sweet apple taste. Pineapple.
    • Finish
Long and hot. A bitter taste I can't place. Possibly a bit of oak.

In short: Without being the best whisky in the world, he managed the bet of an assembly made in Arran. It gives aromatic diversity and the desire to return to it. The limited editions of this distillery, like the Illicit Still, are real successes and not just marketing shots. Eight sherry casks, eight French oak, five bourbon. An evil word game? Er, not too much. www.passionduwhisky.com
    • Nose
Nose: Exotic fruits, mandarin, mango, papaya. Coconut milk. Orange, a hint of lemon. Honey and a little chocolate. It's super greedy. Sherry is present.
    • Taste
Palate: Fruits and honey come together wonderfully. Red and sweet berries, cranberry let's go crazy. Alcohol, what alcohol? White pepper caresses the tongue and produces a flash of acidity. Chewing raises the sherry side, chocolate, orange. I just love it.
    • Finish
Finale: Chocolate, sweet cereals, mandarin again and the memory of a very good dram.
