      92 92
      chamomile tea, dried dates with smoke around, tobacco
      chocolate with syrup. Broiled meat.
      Fruits are coming out,  purple plum, grape stem, sweet spices, earth, old leather, peanut and some sherry note.
      Fresh fruits led by pear with peel near the rim top.
      Lots of toffee near the rim bottom.
      Weak peat, a bit mentholy
      More earth and mineral after a sip.
      Finally I can smell peat from emptied glass.
    • Taste

      Honey, toffee, mandarin orange, dried fruits. Tiny bit of cocoa powder.
      Light ginger
      More citrus zest, diluted toffee.
      Med body
      Not sweet enough, a bit watery
    • Finish
      87 87
      Pepper. Citrus zest, cheap creamy and vanilla chocolate.
      Sickly sweet syrup.
      Light earthy peat. Some tannin

    Extremely greasy, smoky note on the nose, very salty and some red fruit. Since I am totally into that kind of thing, one or the other could be displeased. Then again very, very salty in the mouth, then smoked meat, ham, strawberry and some oak. Long and dry finish. Not an easy drop, but it can be entertaining.

    Nose: It bites your nostrils when undiluted. Very sharp and alcoholic. This one needs water! After some time, it opens up. Dry sherry, seaweed, briny seashore, marzipan, roasted hazelnuts, some wet cardboard, burnt driftwood. The nose is still kinda closed.Mouth: Prickles on the tongue. Sweet and sour, oranges, lemonpeel, soysauce, salted caramel, sweet popcorn, a rush of ultra-black peatsmoke coats my mouth, walnuts appear, cardboardy in the finish. Slightly odd. The salt stayed on my lips after I swallowed.Comments: I honestly don’t know why they named this one the “amazing” cask. It is a good one no doubt, but definetly not better than the other MoS in the flight. Too expensive for what it has to offer. /88

    A truly 'Amazing Cask'. A wonderful Ardbeg, as they are not found too often today. Great choice, great malt.
    • Nose
      Reminds in the nose immediately to be filled with a hefty 58.2%. In the background the smell of a freshly asphalted road in summer. Tobacco leaves are dried next to the road, the smell for too long already. Sherrynoten, but not overpowering. Fruity and dry at the same time. As unusual as exciting! The interplay and the variety of flavors promises a very interesting taste. Strong Islay smokers have matured in sherry casks are usually a force, provided that the barrels are right.
    • Taste
      Soft oily malt with a decidedly strong onion. Dried fruits, licorice, warm smoke, spruce resin and a mild sweetness characterize this demanding as well as character-strong malt. Fortunately, the intense tarseness on the tongue is less pronounced and leaves more room for the smoke flavor and a taste reminiscent of sweet ashes. I like that I feel no disturbing wood effects. The Amazing Cask understands perfectly to put in front of his MoS drum brothers in the right light.

    The name Amazing Cask sets the bar of course very high and makes me at first for a marketing defense reflex. In this case, MoS has not promised too much. A great dram with beautifully complex Sherrynoten in connection with changeable smoke.
    • Nose
      Moist wet smoke in combination with a dominant sweetness at the first Verriechen, smoked ham or at least crispy bacon and vegetables, organic flavors of soil, humus and in between every now and then a touch of fruity sweetness / acidity in various forms (grapefruit, pineapple, rhubarb, strawberry ,Currant)
    • Taste
      intense tarry smoke with powerful power; In addition, an oily mouthfeel with plenty of fruit (plum, bitter orange, morello cherries)
    • Finish
      In the finish, the sweetness of the sherry keg beats through first (I would bet on a PX barrel), only with time, the smoke can prevail from the mouth oh and by the way. The finish is _lang_

    I had the luck to taste this unique Ardbeg and can confirm what Markjedi1 writes above. Indeed another "Amazing Cask" by Malts of Scotland. 

    When you hear Ardbeg from a Sherry cask, you have an idea, what you can expect and this Whisky will not disappoint you. My guess is, that this was a PX cask for maturing, cause of this oily sweetness and lots of fruits. Its absolutely well balanced between salt, sweetness, peat and all these fruits.

    Damn, this is good
    stuff. You should see my face with its broad smile plastered on it. Amazing
    indeed, this cask. A notorious Ardbeg selected by a notorious connoisseur. Just
    under 200 EUR, but worth every cent. Top!
    • Nose
      Oxo! That is the
      first thing that comes to mind when I put my nose in the glass. You know: the
      mixture used to make a soup or broth. Underneath – and with a bit of patience –
      I get some tar, peat and old leather. It is not really sweet, but with some
      effort you can find some almonds and rhubarb in there as well. Again it pays to
      be patient. Even a hint of raspberries and chocolate shines through. Very
      special and worth your while!
    • Taste
      Oily, almost creamy,
      on the palate. It sticks to your teeth, if you know what I mean. Sweet peat,
      salt and loads of ashes precede all kinds of sweetness in the shape of plums,
      cuberdons, some grapefruit and chocolate. Yes, it is a whole lot sweeter on the
      palate than the nose would have you expect. And very good!
    • Finish
      The finish is
      wonderfully long on smoke and dried, dark fruit with a salty edge.

    Ardbeg malt likes sherry. Its very far from best such bottlings but still really enjoyable.
