Similar profile to the 30 year old at 1/4 of the price. Of course less rich and complex than the 30 year old but must consider the price difference. I have tried most of their core range and I think this is the best buy. What I had is a 2016 bottling so keep in mind there can be batch variations. If price is not a big concern look for well reviewed family casks that are over 25 years. These are the sweet spots of what Glenfarclas has to offer.
    • Nose
      90 90
Dusty old books, hazelnuts, nougat, orange gummies, sweet cream, mentholy notes.
    • Taste
      87 87
Similar to the nose but intertwined with chocolate and a big helping of spicy wood tannins. A little acrid at times.
    • Finish
      88 88
      Medium, nutty, spicy.

A very pronounced sherry barrel, honor, complex and balanced. Creamy and almondy. Long finish. relatively low alcohol and full-bodied aromas. Very good.

An uncomplicated malt, one focused on delivering value to the consumer with a minimum of fanfare or cost. I'm usually on the fence with a 43% ABV finding 46% ABV to be a much more reasonable minimum but, in this case, the 43% works. There is just enough wood spice to give this whisky a bit of zing and save it from being too "calm". Couple that with a rather robust orange note paired with some nice chocolate bitterness and you have, my friends, a winner.

A nose all about fruits in alcohol, heavy on the cherries, with some background oak, nutmeg and some wood undergrowth.
In the mouth, again cherries macerated in alcohol, a rose like flowery taste, nutmeg & sandalwood, a splash of anis
The mouth is syrupy yet very soft.
A very sharp finish on oak, nutmeg & sweet cocoa

This family-owned distillery utilizes two types of wood for aging; in this case, the types are American refill ex bourbon barrels and European 1st fill ex-sherry casks. The price for a similar 25 year whisky is typically double or triple what this bottle costs making this an extraordinary value.
