  1. Lord of Orkney scored this whisky 83 points Expert Junior

To my taste very inharmonious and sprittig, in the nose as well as in the finish.

  2. Calmar scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Interesting mole, sherry, in general, the aroma, with the unexpectedly oily bipolar taste of the oak / raisins, is dry enough, with the development of dryness in the aftertaste. The basis is again difficult to determine, common only in rotten, dung notes in the style of Glen Scotia, but this can also be from sherry.
    • Nose
Open, malt-woody, solidol, rotten manure notes, pre-foliage, herbarium, cream tones - fondant, boiled condensed milk, furniture varnish, solvent, lemon peel, dirty dried apricots, raisin water.
    • Taste
Raisin-oily, sweet, astringent astringent oak, raisins of different varieties, light peppery wave, young branches and bark, sweetness gives way to dryness.
    • Finish
Sweet and sour, spicy, turning into dry, orange peel, quince, astringent persimmon, dried apricots, raisins.

Fruity in the nose, but also a slightly sprittige note. In the taste then honey and sherry. The departure is me for 46% and the very old age too sprittig. Macduff and I do not fit together somehow.

    • Nose
Fruit! That's what comes up first. Tinned peach, banana, strawberry. It's all with icing sugar. Then, there's honey,  furniture polish, vanilla, grass, and mint. Not overly complex, but appealing.
    • Taste
Easy-going and without annoying compkexity: peach, banana, vanillins, grass, eucalyptus.
    • Finish
Medium, staying rather sweet, on dried grapes, the initial taste, kiwi/passion fruit

too much wooded in my case this whisky is nice, but will not mark me more than that. A little too linear maybe. To re-test after a few weeks of opening the bottle ...

  9. Falnor scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

A sweet and nice, lovely whisky.
    • Nose
Roasted almods and other nuts. Butter cake and almondoil. Caramels and fudge. Cream and milkchocolate. Still light after all these years on sherryoak. I would've expected more heavy notes.
    • Taste
Spicy oak, sweet wood licorice. Hint of peper makes it alive. Still this very milk kind of chocolate. A touch of mint and ginger?
    • Finish
Light but a long lingering sensation remains. After the dram ended, I got some dried tea leaves and herbs.

Macduff 22 IM 46% WID: 55800 (undiluted, directly from the sample bottle)
Nose: the same amount of woodiness. After a few seconds pine needles. Slightly stinging. Sweet fruits are coming. Multivitamin juice. Mirabelle. Some milk chocolate.
After the first sip: Light smoke has spread. Herbs and fruits are mixed up.
Taste: Initially sweet as multivitamin juice. Milk chocolate comes to it. Overall, quite creamy. It gets fresher. Light tingle. Still, it can be kept in your mouth for a long time. It's getting bitter.
Second sip: It starts off a bit bitterly. Bitter almond, but then quickly fruity. Maybe quinces. Chocolate and roasted aromas mix with it.
From sip to sip, the sherry becomes more and more intense. The bitterness gives way to a slight acutely sharpness.
Finish: many roasted aromas. Coffee beans. It stays bitter. Bitter mirabelles are still sticking to the cheeks. It still tingles on the tongue. The bitterness gives way to a creamy feeling. There is still some milk chocolate hanging in the throat.
Conclusion: I have to give him more time to breathe next time and devote more time to him. A little later: he likes more time in the glass. But he is still a bit too spritig and bitter for me. Further tasting: After a long time in the open sample bottle he lost the sharpness. Also, today he is not as bitter as I had previously described him. For 46% I find it very full today and very varied in taste and nose. The smoked herbal note is also back. I raise to 87 points.

A nice malt, I like it, but it takes some time in the glass, the change in the nose from the sulfur / leather to the fruit is very interesting and fun.
    • Nose
slight sulfur; dark fruits; old leather; after some time in the glass will come lighter fruits; it gets sweet and the sherry is there too; Sugar and syrup; Chocolate; Quince and quince jelly; bananas; the sulfur and the leather are to be guessed only in the background
    • Taste
Immediately you notice the sherry; It gets really sweet and fruity with a pleasant tingle in the mouth; slightly oily; Plum and chocolate
    • Finish
medium to long; sherry again; very fruity and very sweet; Chocolate; minimal smoke is to be guessed; At the very end, if you think that is already gone, the oak comes like a board and then stays
