with a bit of warmth and patience, a magical fruity nose develops in my Snifter - it's just like mouth watering - on the palate he can not quite keep his level - a higher ranking in my nose would be forgiven if he had something would be more intense
    • Nose
      93 93
Sugar frosted sweet nuts, sweet yellow fruit, baked banana, crystalline lemon, orange peel, date, apricot - very tightly interwoven, intense rose water, pistachio pastry, extremely hot vanilla

mild, gentle, caressing, tender - irresistibly fruity and again and again very cinnamon gingerbread notes - but also fragile - I can best enjoy it when I let it form again and again a fragrance bell - for continuous nosing he is already a bit too weak
    • Taste
      90 90
delicate smoke, mint, tree juice concentrate, cream yoghurt, ginger, pear compote, pineapple, beautiful light wood notes - delicate bitterness - grapefruit peel / bitter lemon - still full in the green area but already clearly perceptible
    • Finish
      90 90
extremely creamy - I never had such an oily malt - cream yoghurt with 20% fat :) subtle fine sweetness, a bit dry like green tea, spices - especially cinnamon, udn gingerbread spices - but this combined with yellow fruits which I as absolute peculiarity perceive - the flavors are just wonderful - I value a little because he has become age-old

Overall, the finish is very long

Tasted at Old and Rare 2020. Fruity with some smoke and herbal tea notes, very nice.

Milky tropical fruit punch consisting of ripen jackfruit, soursop, and banana. Lightly floral - elderflower, chrysanthemum and ricola candy. Steamed cashew nuts, sweet and juicy Japanese purple potatoes.
    • Taste
      89 89
Sugary goodness of caramelised banana paired with a reduction of honey on a pan. Minor notes of tea tree oil, menthol like coating of the mouth. Soft, easy going fruit mix. Leaving it out in air for 30 mins then develops into a thicker fluid with more viscosity. Bit of pepper, a tad of cinnamon.

Short to medium. Peppery finishing. No fruity flavours anymore. Some sort of bitterness, like eating raw tea leaves. Possibly burnt orange peel.

Rich malt with tree bark, potpourri of floral. Creamy tropical fruits,
milky soursop, some mango coming thru. Charming and balance. Still
fresh with tinge of green despite 43YO.

P- Sugared peppermint tea, drop of caramel, soft and elegant. Take its time to lingers and slowly filled up the palate.

F- Medium, smooth and easy, gentle but full of flavors and plenty of strength to last. White pepper.

Ben Nevis 43 yo 1970/2014 (44.8%, Eiling Lim) Colour: gold. Nose: ah yes, this very idiosyncratic mix of rose-scented soap (which isn’t exactly soapy) and carbon paper at first nosing, followed by several tropical fruits such as papayas and mangos. After two or three minutes, rather more almonds as well as hints of marshmallows and bubblegum, which is very Ben Nevis indeed. Tree bark. After all these years it’s still the distillate that remained quite vocal, but it’s true that there isn’t the usual heavy sherry that’s often to be found in old Ben Nevis. Mouth: very much in keeping with the nose, with more or less the same combo in the arrival, then more green oak but ‘in a good way’. Green tea and tobacco, more leaves, chlorophyll, a bit of green curry powder… I also find herbs (tarragon?) as well as notes of barbecued marshmallows. Ever tried that? Finish: medium length. Some oranges coming through now, grapefruits, one or two bitter spices… Comments: surprisingly fresh for a 43 yo malt whisky. I enjoyed this greenish oak, it added freshness. Also funny that the distillate itself never gave up! SGP:661 - 88 points.
