- Ooh. This is a nectarine dream. Benromach certainly made a heavy oily spirit back before the distillery closed in 83'. I can really sense the weight of the spirit adn those long fermentations despite G&M watering this down to 40%. In fact this would be a mighty mighty dram with more legs. They've put it on a diet. and its a bit skinny as a result. What a shame!
- Tasted at the Dornoch hotel and raised a glass to my wife and my new friend Marc!
- Dark, smoky nose (think drifts of smoke from an open coal fire), with burnt sugar, wet leaves, stewed dark fruits, engine oil and a metallic edge. Very powerful on the palate (it feels a lot higher than 40%!), with a waxy/oily mouthfeel supporting muscuvado sugar, roast coffee beans and an even stronger 'metallic' edge than on the nose. Medium-length, herbal finish. A very different profile to most modern malts, that's for sure, but not necessarily better.
