Overall, I find Balblair 2003 balanced and not too strong. Rather simple and good drinkable. Other vintage series promises more taste experience, but for the price you get my opinion a good whisky without much magic. Cheers
    • Nose
The first impression delighted me, a pleasant note of fruits and vanilla, a hint of honey and some toffee.
    • Taste
The taste comes first vanilla and again the fruit. After some time it becomes like lemon juice but not so strong.
    • Finish
A medium / short finish rounds it off well.

Spicy in the aroma, smells like cloves, pears. In the taste then much fruity, opens now, offers some vanilla, just my taste. Compared to the 2002er far behind, but still a very good drop ...

Yes it’s young and lacks depth. But it’s also vibrant, fun and drinkable.

They bothered to put a vintage on the bottle (age is calculable) rather than create a fancy name and equal fancy story around this whisky. No instead Balblair gives you a natural coloured whisky with a vintage. I have to praise them for that.
    • Nose
A fresh, young, fruity and subtle whisky with aromas of floral tones (buttercups), lemon, pear drops, apricots, peach, nectarines, barley sugar, subtle vanilla, orange-blossom, green appel, a hint of honey and a hint to toffee.
    • Taste
A powerful, pricy and young whisky with aromas of malt, pepper, ginger, grass, heather, subtle oak, caramel, spices, honey, vanilla, peach, pineapple, pear drops, slightly sour (lemon juice), orange muesli and a hint of toffee.
    • Finish
A medium and sweet finish with aromas of citrus, honey, pepper, subtle oak and ginger.

Serge from Whiskyfun says:Balblair 2003/2014 (46%, OB) Colour: white wine. Nose: these may be the limits of the concept of vintage bottling. It noses young. Not quite immature, and certainly polished and pleasantly fruity, but it’s no deep nose. Vanilla, sweet apples, a bit of American oak, and punto basta. Simple! Mouth: very good, for sure, but once again, the simplicity is slightly disappointing. More sweet apples, a little candy sugar, some vanilla, a little grass, and over to the taster. I insist, it’s good juice, and it goes down very well, but it’s lacking the depth and the complexity that other bottlings, including pretty young ones, used to display. Finish: medium, sweet, almost sugary. Sweetened breakfast tea. Comments: of course we love Balblair, but even if we won’t have one of the famous old official 1966s as the next one, I fear… SGP:441 - 78 points.

Such an honest profile. I could give it an extra point for that. No wood thrills, no gimmicks. Not your blockbuster malt. Rather intellectual and demanding attention. Not easy but rewarding.

    • Nose
Cereal, dusty, nice citrus freshness, some fruit - pear. Then some light vanilla note with a drop of water.
    • Taste
Good smooth body. fresh, some vanilla creaminess, some fudge (light notes). Dash of white pepper
    • Finish
medium on dusty pepper and mix of vanilla and cereal.

Quite decent dram with a light and fruity style. I would drink this as an aperitif on a sunny day.
    • Nose
Creamy, fruity and waxy: vanilla, porridge, white fruit (pear), even some violets
    • Taste
A little hot in the beginning, but this vanishes because of the reduced ABV. It's quite mild, dominated by the vanilla and the fruit.
    • Finish
Short and slightly acrid, the elements of the taste are prolongued.

Young whisky, creamy and quite sweet. Easy to tackle. Looks great with or after a dessert, because of that ice cream sensation and the rum-raisin side that counterbalances with the malt.
    • Nose
Pleasant nose with notes of lemon, honey and vanilla. You could think of a rum. Then the malt takes over with grape smells.
    • Taste
On the palate, it has the sensation of an ice cream with aromas of apple, undergrowth and spices. Pretty cool.
    • Finish
A final with always this sensation of ice cream with vanilla and rum-grapes. Malt and alcohol are also present. Beautiful sweetness.
