Whisky Reviews for Ben Nevis 1999 MBl

6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.94 points

  1. Joschbert scored this whisky 91 points Expert Junior

Very tasty and not a bit pungent at 49.1%. But also puts a few drops of water away well. Nice that the Brennereicharakter still remained noticeable. Great 1st fill Oloroso cask - I'm typing on European oak. a total of 91-92
    • Nose
Sweet and sour overripe fruits, sherry, chocolate, cherry jam, spices (cloves, cinnamon, anise), leather and some tart coffee notes (92)
    • Taste
very intense - there is heavy sweet sherry, the coffee and chocolate notes are also present on the palate, slightly dry, orange peel, then come the spices (especially cinnamon, allspice), sandalwood (91)
    • Finish
ends with lots of chocolate, dates, nuts and Kramell - delicate smokes, a little tobacco - medium to long (90)

  3. malthead-sven scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

A classic sherry malt, with a delicious, tough texture in the taste and finish, which you would blindly probably estimate a few years older.
    • Nose
heavy sherry, chocolate raisins, marzipan potatoes, then fruits, limes and oranges, ripe red grapes, toffee sweets, drinking chocolate with cream, sawn wood
    • Taste
oily, dense, heavy full-bodied, gingerbread, no dryness, more on the sweet side
    • Finish
Almonds, maple syrup, greasy-oily and spicy, cappuccino, dark fruits behind, medium-long and mouthwash

  4. Helgo scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

    Top PLV!
A nice nose with slight misses, which I write the intense finish. He tolerates some time in the glass and then becomes more harmonious and harmonious. The wine notes are then a bit more set.
In the mouth soft, oily, full and with sweet wine gum and marginal smoke a nice depth, although no madness complexity.
The finish is short to medium long and very dry.

  5. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    mjam, interesting, bold, yummy!
    • Nose
strong-spicy-sweet, raisins, prunes, tobacco, leather, with a very slightly pungent note, between sour and bangers
    • Taste
even at the smallest sip - strong dark chocolate, oak, gingerbread, roasted sugar - full-bodied, mouthwash, yummy
    • Finish
long, wood, dark chocolate, quite dry

  6. Noon0000 scored this whisky 90 points Member Senior

Lovely entanglement of wood and sherry. Does not need water for me.
    • Nose
Velvety, dark sherry-rich kick. Smells "darker" than its color. Pleasant leather notes. Hints of cardboard (the likable one). Pickled raisins develop. Cooked fruits. Faint sulphuric reminiscence.
    • Taste
Mouth follows nose! Woody bitterness. Pleasant oak. Vibrant sherry starting sweet and sour becoming dry shorty afterwards. With water: overbrewed tea, coffee notes, peppery.
    • Finish
Astringent mouthfeel. Medium-long departure. Tobacco notes remain. With water: drier and more bitterness.
