[January, 2018]  The 15-years old Balvenie single barrel usually is the best deal one can buy from this lovely distillery.  So I check if this general rule applies to this release, too.

Yes, it does.  This is the typical (and adorable) Balvenie profile with lots of fruits, vanilla and honeys in an appropriate wooden structure.  A creamy mouthfeel and long finish complement this delicate nose and delicious taste.  Another great release from Balvenie, well done!

    Light, fresh Balvenie. Recommended!
    • Nose
A lot of fruits. Especially pear, peach and pineapple. Along with tutti frutti, coconut, vanilla and honey.
    • Taste
Light, creamy, fruity. Peach and banana, toffee and honey, mint and pepper.
    • Finish
      Long, creamy, fruity

  3. St. Pauli scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Well-made whisky, for sure. A typical summer dram, and quite quaffable.
    • Nose
A typical bourbon barrel influenced fruit basket: pear (although this could/should be from the spirit), melon, pineapple, even strawberry (hubba bubba). Then, coconut shavings, vanilla, honey drizzled cake, and a lot of grass.
    • Taste
Light and pleasant. Still fruity, yet a bit different. Peach, apricot and pineapple. A tingle of pepper, then herbal, with grass and mint.
    • Finish
Long, and relatively light. Still, there is a tingle on the tongue, which resembles a bit of bitterness (pepper). What lingers is a nice fruity and creamy taste, like a tropical fruit milkshake.

A summer Whisky indeed. Does the job perfectly well. If the taste was a little more complex it would been a 90.
    • Nose
Lots of fruit here. Peaches, Pears most of all and honeydew. Apples for sure. Then some honey and a certain freshness like spearmint bubblegum. The nose is very expressive and harmonic. You don't need to work this one. Slightly buttery after some time.
    • Taste
Honey and caramel at first. It gets spirity after that on peach Eau de Vie. Some liquorice. Not as Cask heavy as you would expect, the taste differs greatly from the nose imo. It's a little bit simpler but incredibly fresh and light. Slightly flowery. Some Banana maybe.
    • Finish
Long enough. Minty, sugary with a nice honeyed aftertaste.

This is a summer whisky, light and refreshing and not as heavy as many 15 year single Barrel.

    A good one.
    • Nose
Honey, caramel and melon with a little pear.
    • Taste
Sweet and creamy, on light treacle tart, whipped cream and highland toffee
    • Finish
Good medium length with a creamy finish
