    For a 12y, this whisky is incredibly complex in the nose
    In the mouth he does not manage to keep this complexity
    the finish is then again very successful
    the flavors are exciting and special
    but not for every taste

    • Nose
      the bunna butter in a smoky iron pan
      in the previously caramel candy are burned
      in the butter comes a brown trout with lemon juice
      and then yellow fruits in salted water
      Oak leaves from last year
      Raisins wrapped in young ivy leaves
      are swirled in the butter with sugar and a pinch of nutmeg
    • Taste
      Wow yes the caramels are burned ivy leaves
      salty and bitter (from the oak leaves) a lot of sweetness
      a pinch of chili & peat
    • Finish
      very long
      The salt water has made your mouth wet
      You still taste the burnt on the caramel sweets from the iron pan
      the earthy of oak leaves
      as if there were still a forest mushroom

      a lot of charcoal ash .. well with malt sweetness

    • Nose
      Smoky garden fire, Landjäger. Lemons with honey, limes, green apples, some leather. A touch of mint and sage.
    • Taste
      Cigar smoke, sweet malt, a little forest honey. Leather, tobacco, coffee. Dark chocolate, some salt, wood ash.

    An interesting whisky, very aromatic and changeable with a nice balance of smoke and aromas
    • Nose
      Alcohol tingles in the nose, then burning gum, but quickly disappears, then some smoke, caramel, as if you make yourself candies, if you heated sugar water and shortly before burning, disinfectants and limes
      with water: almost no change
    • Taste
      Dry, red fruits, cherries, oak, some campfire smoke, light caramel sweetness, very complex and complex, slightly creamy like dry red wine and dark chocolate at the very end
      with water: as without, but the smoke becomes clearer and a saltiness comes to it. Also a bit fruity, raisins, dark fruits.

      some of the campfire smoke, bitterness and tannins of the oak sound pretty long after

    [October, 2014]  I had this dram during a "Feis Ile 2014" tasting at Bonn. In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 90.  My notes state heavy peaty flavours combined with a nice sweetness.  It is a good swimmer.

    The nose shows the typical Bunnahabhain-filthiness, which makes this distillery so unique. This and the smoke dominate, there is little to be found from the Marsala ripening. The mighty entrance surprises and exaggerates, as the other, certainly existing notes are suppressed. The finish pleases, but is less complex compared to the nose and the taste.
    • Nose
      Apricot, clearly smoke, spicy, dirty, slightly sour orange, sage, with a little imagination a reminder of red wine
    • Taste
      Soft body and a powerful onset, the whisky glows on the tongue, hot pepper, red pepper berries, hidden behind it slowly appears again apricot, light smoke is above all, slightly spicy oak, a touch caramel, the association of smoked dried fruit
    • Finish
      The whisky also glows on the palate, but now rather warm than sharp, smoke and noticeable oak, burned, a faint memory of the fruits of smell and taste

    Nose: Very maritime to start with. Sea breeze. Brine. Sweet peat. Rather creamy with a rich vanilla flan sort of aroma. Crushed peppercorns. Hot Cinnamon gum. Wood smoke.

    Palate: Starting with a pepper on the initial attack , then getting sweeter with sweet peat, fortified wine , cinnamon , red fruit jam , brine, leather and some fudge. Sweet spicy and peaty. The Marsala finish works well with the young heavy peat profile.

    Finish : Pepper. Brine. Hot cinnamon,peat and some lotus caramelized biscuit.

    Bottom line:

    This, my friends, a brilliant young peated bunny. Highly enjoyable, lovely integration of the peat and Marsala. Can’t go wrong with that one. It’s maybe the second or third best bottling for this festival.

    This is a heavily peated Bunnahabhain that was first matured in ex American bourbon casks for 9 years before being finished in Marsala cask No 1 on the 1st of February 2013. This wonderful 10 year old single malt combines the original smoky wood with the sweet and aromatic extract imparted by the Sicilian dessert wine cask balanced with the rich coastal character.
