 85 pour l'encouragement

What strikes first is the oak, obviously. This is followed by notes of coal, vanilla, spices and some milk chocolate. Very inviting.

Taste

Rich, full-bodied bourbon with the taste following the nose - a hint of carbon/smoke, ginger, pepper, toffee, chocolate and a bit of sweetness towards the finish.

Finish

Long, warming with wood, charcoal, oranges and chocolate.

Comments

A great introduction to middle shelf bourbon!

This is a wonderful Bourbon, top of the range and at a very good price as well. You will only find this in specialist whisky shops, well in England anyway. A lot of love, care and attention has gone into making this Bourbon and you can tell. Quality all over it.

A lovely strong Oakwood nose is the first thing that hits, but coming up behind are some wonderful fruits like cherry and plum. The vanilla is there as with all bourbons and a large dollop of chocolate orange.

Taste

Thick and chewy when you swill it around your mouth, and it leaves that nice warm coating that is just heaven. Quite smooth for a bourbon, full bodied and you can taste the wood and dates as it warms your soul.

Finish

A long mouth coating, fruity. dry finish that lasts long into the night if you have a nip before you go to bed. The wife said to me, did you brush your teeth? Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!! God would not forgive me.

Comments

I have tasted some world class Bourbons in my time and this one sits with the best. Wonderful.

This version is a NAS version, hence no version of the 15yo but a totally different bottling. Upper laben now states "... until fully mature..." - in the old days it was indeed 15 years on the label.
