what do you want more than smoke lovers more notes, more tension? Yes, a 90 plus should have more but this Laphi creates as a "simple" whisky such a beautiful taste experience, a consistent line, a harmony without giving up all the tension, he stumbles at any point, he is easy to enjoy, that must be rewarded yes, I like him
    • Nose
great smoky Laphraoig nose Sweet as popcorn with apricot jam in the peat smoke smoking wood ash with tar paper he bites and flatters at the same time
    • Taste
in the beginning pleasantly soft and sweet then comes the wood / peat fire, the sweetness develops on the palate, the bite on the tongue Wood ash, peat smoke, apricot jam, bitter & sweet simply delicious and tasty for smoke lovers
    • Finish
long, warm, smoking in the throat, sweetness now on the tongue and on the palate, from apricot jam slowly becomes a physalis

  2. magic_slim scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Fantastic ... recommended for Peatheads only.
    • Nose
As intensively peaty and smoky as expected with notes of lemon juice and apple peels. Bitter sweet and zesty, salty and oily.
    • Taste
Surprisingly sweet and smooth at first mouthfeel, but then comes a powerful oily peatyness followed by dry and dusty, concentrated and breathtaking smoke. Plenty of Lapsang Souchong smoked tea, a dash of salt, humus, smoked mackerel covered with ashes.  After a while some licorice is coming up.
    • Finish
Peat, smoke and ashes are lingering on and on and on for ever with additional concentrated black tea extract and pepper in the aftertaste. Feels like a peat fire glowing deep inside.

  3. LordBellamy scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Nose: sweet smoke, red berries (wild strawberry?), Mineral, iodine, some salt, pebble sand, ripe bright fruits, some banana in the background, after some time, sherry aromas of cherry and nut push forward, tar sands, oil, asphalt, BBQ RIPs

Taste: fresh tar, heavy smoke, which is very phenolic, iodine, bog oak, salt and sea spray, some seaweed

Finish: the peat occupies the throat and the tongue for a long time, in addition to the strong smoke, oil and tar are also used, the oak is there, but it is well integrated

Water: he does not really need it, we try it anyway - it is much brighter, the bright fruits are much more intense, it is also sweeter, fir honey, pine resin, the smoke is now more towards charcoal

Conclusion: simple, straight, Laphroaig at its very best, yet very complex, interesting, never boring, with or without water. A whisky without much chi-chi that simply convinces with its power and distillery character. In addition he was praised fair fair, even if the prices for the here again go through the ceiling. Why can not there be much more of such bottlings? Fortunately, I have a second bottle in the basement 89 points

  4. Archer scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Powerful and immediately present. The others should be shy, he wants to work immediately and with oppressive power.
    • Nose
Strong, oppressive smoke. Iodine, salt. Nori sheets. The idea of a tidal pool. Wood bleached in the sun. After a while, the sea evaporates and in its place are almost ripe fruits like mirabelles and pears.
    • Taste
When the smoke in the nose was almost gone, it now returns to the palate with full force. However, the fruits do not need as long as in the nose and walk hand in hand with the smoke over the tongue. The malt dry does his work and even picks up speed, adds a shovel of salt.
    • Finish
Long. The smoke passes, goes over in wet peat. Oak joins and mates with the not quite ripe fruits. Dryness is spreading.

  7. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Intense, peat, salt, iodine, a slightly musty-lemony sweetness, but fits well. The essence of Islay. A real peat bog, but with substance and a great Toffeesüße.
