Whisky Reviews for Chivas Regal 12-year-old

51 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 73.47 points

  1. Slàinte Mhath scored this whisky 78 points Administrator

As one of the best-selling Blended Scotches in the world, Chivas Regal 12 certainly stands out from the crowd of cheap and low quality alternatives. Fruity and slightly aromatic notes with honey, caramel and vanilla characterize the nose. Don't expect any exiting features or great complexity. The lead malt Strathisla comes through on the palate: it tastes light and sweet with creamy toffee, red apples and pleasant hints of nuttiness. Old refill cask bitterness remains of a quickly gone finish. A flawless but altogether boring blend with age statement.

Nose: Polished wood, fennel fronds and vanilla custard. Moves on to toffee with some pleasing grassiness underneath. Really quite good.

Palate: Toffee sauce, brown sugar and dried banana pieces. A moment of slightly funky, cheap sticky toffee pudding and then it falls apart with a chemical bitterness.

Finish: The Achilles heel, I’m afraid. A little warmth, a little wood, a little boring.

Thoughts: Hugely drinkable and a decent price for what it is. The nose makes a few promises that the palate can’t live up to but it does the job.

    [60% malt to 40% grain]
N: A light, vanilla nose with a softish egg white note.
    T: A little raw
F: Still raw-ish with a little dry vanilla.
C: A dry-sour modern blend. Dull-as and hugely disappointing. Let's try the 1970's presentation: [no WB page for it just yet]

  10. Ivynor did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Very diluted, not very interesting but not bad grades either.
A little wood, caramel, cut herbs, some touches of citrus.
