very interesting, in this direction I have tried so far very little. But unfortunately not quite my personal taste.
    • Nose
Herbs, hay, flower meadow, chamomile ?, a certain sweetness, reminds me of herbal tea
    • Taste
there is a tingling in the mouth, sweet, honey, again this floral mix, like a herbal drop, Ricola?
    • Finish
the spicy herbal note will last for a moment, before leaving with a touch of dry oak

    (bought 01/16, last glass 05/18)
In nose a lot of wood, floral, slightly medicinal notes, orange.

Very nice Clynelish. Takes you on a varied journey from the nose to the finish.
    • Nose
Herbal, bloomy right from the start. Camomile tea with wild honey. The bourbon hoggi brings in very little caramel and vanilla. Therefore more of a spicy, soapy aroma. Reminds me of freshly cut tulips. Takes a while before the typical Clynelish style with superd citrus and mint comes trough.
    • Taste
Sweet start. Initially the wild honey again. Just the right amount of alcohol. Also quite some oak. This was missing entirely in the nose. Completely different now in the taste. The cask dominant over the Clynelish character. Spicy, oaky. The fresh citrus fruits that you had in the nose are gone.
    • Finish
Very malty, oaky finish. Little dry. Not overly long, but not that short either.

[September, 2017]  Clynelish usually is a very reliable distillery that produces at least good and sometimes really great malts (except they used a sulphur-spoiled cask).  So expectations are quite high on this...

Another good Clynelish that fits into the excellent image of this distillery, very quaffable...

[December, 2019] I opened another bottle that I bought for 75 Euro in April, 2015. I fully confirm my old review - this dram will not rock the whisky world but it is a fine old-style dram which is easy-to-sip.
    • Nose
      88 88
The colour is pale straw and the texture shows some slow legs and late sticky tears. The nose is all about this creamy vanilla-toffee-ish Clynelish trademark aromas that so many people love about this distillery. Besides this there are rather rich herbal-spicy aromas which in this context are really nice (usually I am not a fan of bold herbal drams).
    • Taste
      86 86
The taste itself offers a really interesting mix of toffeeish flavours (caramelised) together with herbs, spices and honey-sweet notes. All is balanced and even a little layered, I like that! Water releases more aromas both in the nose and on the palate but actually I like both the neat and reduced dram. So this is a good dram to play around with water...
    • Finish
      87 87
The mouthfeel is warming and a little coating just as the texture promised, no drying or astringent moments. The finish is of medium length and adds some chocolatey aromas to the mix with no bitter or drying notes either.

    Comments from Whiskyfun:
Clynelish 17 yo 1996/2014 (54%, The Whisky Cask, bourbon hogshead, cask #88008) Four stars Colour: dark straw.

Nose: another country, another galaxy. This, is Clynelish. Much more power, more waxes, more soot, even more ashes, more earth… Hurray! With water: perfect. Some mint and camphor come out, which is even more perfect.

Mouth (neat): it’s as fruity as the 1997 by the same excellent bottler, but they’re rather lemons and tangerines, with a perfect zestiness and this ‘chiselled’ side that I enjoy so much in Clynelish. Impeccable, this one. With water: some salt coming out, herbs, herbal teas, liquorice…

    Finish: long, slightly salty, piny.
Comments: all good. Very Clynelish. SGP:553 - 87 points.

Very closed, requires water and ventilation
    • Nose
Grass clippings, haystacks, frankincense, spicy herbs, chamomile tea with honey, after some time, the typical maritime salt and citrus flavors open
    • Taste
      Grass, salt, spicy herbal mixture
    • Finish
      Dry, short, sour

Really cool Clynelish, Only the finish lags behind something.
    • Nose
Very different - wax, honey, moist soil, a large portion of overripe fruits, very full and yet somehow fresh
    • Taste
Lemon, honey, herbs, spicy oak, very smooth
    • Finish
Departure is unfortunately not as long as hoped, dry and salty with the same notes as in the mouth.
