Triple distilled. Matured in ex-bourbon American oak and Oloroso ex-sherry casks. Chill-filtered. Coloured. Thick slow slowly forming primary legs. Midsize slow secondary legs. Rare droplets. Holds well a splash of water despite the ABV. Affordable: very good value for the price.

Savoury: mushroom. Feints: tang, sulfur: sour cabbage note. Spicy: ginger, baking spices, brine. Body: mellow, delicate. Water smooths the nose and turns up nutty and savoury notes.
    • Taste

My expectations were low and he just met them. A subtle fruit note on the nose, a little vanilla on the palate and a virtually non-existent finish.

That's what a 12-year-old, triple-distilled whisky tastes like for less than 30 euros.

  3. DistiLesha scored this whisky 77 points Expert Senior

Well, I don't know.. very primitive whisky, in my opinion.

    • Nose
Some unpleasant notes (river?) are immediately felt, singed wood chips, rather closed. We wait.
Revealed. It became more pleasant, sweeter, spices, vanilla appeared.
As if there are some sherry notes, such as dried fruits, but very, very far away.
      Saturation: 5 out of 10
    • Taste
Sweetness, honey, vanilla, river pebbles, bitterness.
    • Finish
But in the aftertaste, but after 3-4 minutes, woodiness, dry wine notes, bitterness of stale overcooked squid begin to be felt.

  14. Robinzon25 scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

The ratio of price and pleasure is especially attractive in it.
    • Nose
Light, dry, with notes of fresh baked goods, vanilla, wildflowers, dried apricots. In the background, hints of sesame, old leather, tobacco and nutmeg are felt.
    • Taste
Oily, nutty, sherry tones are noticeable in the taste, there are many malt, ginger and citrus notes.
    • Finish
Medium-lasting aftertaste, dry, measured, with nuances of bread, vanilla, dried fruit, with a hint of wine. At the end it is warming, slightly peppery, with an oak and vanilla flavor.

  15. Whisky Hamster scored this whisky 78 points Expert Senior

Have had worse, but this one's utterly forgettable in my book. Does not hurt anybody but if you consider alcohol consumption something you want to make count flavorwise in respect to your bodily health... why not drink sth better instead. And, yes, I mean pretty much from the same entry level price range... ;-)

  16. lukejb scored this whisky 74 points Newbie

Very smooth, flavours are present but not distinct, a good average whisky

  17. Malthead19 scored this whisky 75 points Connoisseur

    - a decent malt and a good representative for the Lowlands
    - good entry-level malt
    - for less than 28 € perfectly fine,
    • Nose
fruity (mandarin, orange), malt, sherry and light chocolate in the smell
    • Taste
fruity, tingling sweet start, orange, which turns into a strong pleasant spice (oak) and spreads, slightly sweet combination of fruit / sherry and oak
    • Finish
      medium-long finish;
in the aftertaste spice, becoming dry

    Auchentoshan 12 year old.
May 2015 - Pale orange. Aroma is very sweet, sherry, spice, mead even. Taste is smooth, soft malt, softly tangy, alcohol, peppery, tingly on the tongue. Sweet and salty linger. (75) July 2018 - Light aroma spiritous with vanilla. Taste is rounded with lots of white chocolate and vanilla. White mice sweets. Impression of sweetness. Very easy but with a little 'fire' in the finish. (79)

I'll make it short: no one needs this malt.
The American Oak is even more exciting.
It is also slightly smoky. Just so that it brings nothing to the smoke lover, but repels those who do not like the smoke.

One of my favorite standards. The citrus note is very characteristic, but also aromatic. Complacent, not too complex but anything but boring.
    • Nose
A great nose of lemon, grapefruit and orange, with a hint of vanilla
    • Taste
Sweet and robust in the mouth, a hint of bitter note, citrus peel.
    • Finish
Bitter-sweet, pepper, citrus and a nice velvety sweetness.

Rye and earth on the nose. It's a distinctive note in the play, but that is hard to be named - some earthy pre-smoke, hay.

    80/100
    • Nose
citrus and vanilla, a slice of a green apple, a faint nuttiness. that´s it! not too impressive I must say.
    • Taste
a little bigger on the palate, but far from being big.
well, it´s pleasantly rounded with more apples now. but honestly there´s nothing one could point out, perhaps it has a little of everything.
    • Finish
short and a little flat I´m afraid

  37. Calmar scored this whisky 77 points Connoisseur

Something really quite minimalistic, flat and one-dimensional, for our money very little gives us this mole, the American oak, though lightweight, but more interesting somehow was.
    • Nose
Closed, dry, herbal tones, mixed notes, and a loose grain.
    • Taste
Soft, weakly expressed, malt, oak, weak lacquer notes, light peppercorn,
    • Finish

Initially had to check I'd poured a dram. Pretty innocuous.

After time in the glass and a drop of water a few fairly complex cereal and floral notes weetabix in a hay meadow? with some gala apple, wood spice and dried fruits (from sherry casks?) vanilla certainly and set honey.

the wood is quite assertive and drying, particularly in the finish. slightly bitter.

tinned mandarin oranges and an artificial sweetness.

anticipated, good medium weight. Fruity with a touch of new oak.

  48. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Tasty and cheap for 30 €, but rather for faster pleasure, chewing on it too long, it is a bit dry and strawy. The floral-fruity-fresh Auchentoshan-house-note in the nose I find personally very pleasant - who does not like this here, should rather also from other Auchentoshans keep their fingers, which continues even with a larger barrel influence quite well.
    • Nose
between sweet and fresh, there is vanilla, some honey and malt, but also the very typical (from the New Make?) flowery-fruity (green apple, lime), very slightly artificial acting Auchentoshan note
    • Taste
slightly sweet (honey, caramel), then short green-tart-fruity, slightly bitter (green apple, lime, melon peel), then woody, quite dry
    • Finish

Auchentoshan 12 years, original bottling. 40% alc.
Maturation: Large part of ex-bourbon barrels, small part of ex-sherry casks
    Region: Lowlands, Scotland

Nose: Similar to the Classic very fresh with vanilla, to nutty aromas (walnuts and a bit of nutmeg), followed by limes and wood sugar. The single malt looks a bit set-up, reminiscent of perfume, but not chemically but vegetable green and f ... loral.

Palate: Oranges and tangerines, some lime. In addition, the oak joins neat, with bitter features and a dusty drought at the end.

Finish: slightly dry and bitter, reminiscent of ginger. Medium.

Conclusion: Pleasant dram, easy drinking. The oak is surprising at the age something, yet balanced.
