Whisky Reviews for Auchentoshan 12-year-old

42 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 78.51 points

  1. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    Tasty and cheap for 30 €, but rather for faster pleasure, chewing on it too long, it is a bit dry and strawy. The floral-fruity-fresh Auchentoshan-house-note in the nose I find personally very pleasant - who does not like this here, should rather also from other Auchentoshans keep their fingers, which continues even with a larger barrel influence quite well.
    • Nose
      between sweet and fresh, there is vanilla, some honey and malt, but also the very typical (from the New Make?) flowery-fruity (green apple, lime), very slightly artificial acting Auchentoshan note
    • Taste
      slightly sweet (honey, caramel), then short green-tart-fruity, slightly bitter (green apple, lime, melon peel), then woody, quite dry
    • Finish
      medium long, very dry, a little nut, straw-woody

    A decent Lowland Malt with age, good for beginners!
    • Nose
      75 75
      fruity (lime, mandarin, orange), malty, honey, vanilla;
    • Taste
      76 76
      fruity, tingling on, orange; some caramel; Seasoning spreads; a bit bitter oak;
    • Finish
      74 74
      medium-length finish, in the end dry seasoning;

    Character: A light, mild and uncomplicated bottling. Grainy, very nutty and noticeably watery.
    Rating: Sure well done, but he does not really like me. This watery nut taste and the tart, herbaceous plant taste somehow do not harmonize. From me there are therefore only narrow 77 points
    • Nose
      Basic Flavors: Cereals, Honey, Nut, Resin, Vanilla, Caramel, Citrus, Floral
      Description: Grain and honey dominate the nose right away. The first impression is nutty-resinous. The oak is relatively discreet. It develops a little vanilla and caramel. Throughout the nose also draws a fresh note that reminds me of candied lemon peel and green apples. And then there's also something herb-floral in the game. Difficult to describe. I am reminded of thick green flower stems. A thoroughly pleasing, round and soft overall picture.
    • Taste
      Basic flavors: citrus, sweetness, oak
      Description: The drop is slightly watery and spritly on the tip of the tongue. The oak provides a certain sharpness. Pepper spreads before a nutty tone. Sweet tangerines come through for a moment. There is much more fruit but not flavor. With a little imagination, a little vanilla and a touch of caramel come through. Basically, it stays with a kind of spicy-herbal nut water with a flat body. Not mine.
    • Finish
      Basic Flavors: Nut, Floral
      Description: The finish is comparatively short. In a rather strange way tart floral and nutty. It gets drier over time; unfortunately, the oak hardly ever takes place anymore. Overall, very fleeting.

    Twelve-year-old Akentoshan is the gold standard for Scotch whisky. There is both fruit sweetness and peatiness in it, it is not emasculated, but not wise. Another plus in his favor for re-purchase is the price of this whisky, which rarely exceeds 2,600 rubles (and at a discount it can cost up to 1,500). I bought it in the "Fragrant World" in August 2018 for 2200 p. 0.7 bottle. Whisky has a golden honey color and a medium density body.
    • Nose
      Barberries, toffee, citrus, honey, smoke, almonds, prunes, leaves
    • Taste
      Despite the triple distillation, whisky can not be called super soft, but it is not bad. Peat is present, apparently drying of raw materials over peat makes itself felt. The taste repeats the nose - here also tangerine, lime, nuts and cherry are felt.
    • Finish
      The finish is short and not very dry. In the aftertaste I feel dried apricots, nuts and lemon seeds.

    One of my favorite standards. The citrus note is very characteristic, but also aromatic. Complacent, not too complex but anything but boring.
    • Nose
      A great nose of lemon, grapefruit and orange, with a hint of vanilla
    • Taste
      Sweet and robust in the mouth, a hint of bitter note, citrus peel.
    • Finish
      Bitter-sweet, pepper, citrus and a nice velvety sweetness.

    Rye and earth on the nose. It's a distinctive note in the play, but that is hard to be named - some earthy pre-smoke, hay.

    Although this one has a distinction, I can't describe the taste as the pleasant one.
