What a pity that there is no further supply from this source of relish. Ordered it right away after a small sip.
    • Nose
At first, there is a lot of fluid alcohol. But this is no downside, just give the dram enough time and this "kind of fog" is gone, which is quite typical for older cask strength whiskies @ cask strength. Patience will be rewarded with a well balanced composition of sweet tropical fruits, some sour tropical fruits -especially limes, brazilian wax in the womb of my old lady and some hints of that wonderful aroma from the small canary islands bananas.
    • Taste
Sweet, over-ripe tropical fruits combined with a mineral and earthy touch, a bit like a wet dog, coming in from a long walk in the woods and finally a slight flash of a campfire.
    • Finish
Somewhat between middle and long. First quite spicy. When the spices fade it comes back one more time with enduring fruits near a small fire and some earthy notes. Delicate.

These are the marks for 6 x 1990's Caperdonich H2H.
Being completely honest the first 4 in this flight were far from great, only the Mos and the Distillery Reserve hit the good category.
By the 1990's it looks like most of the Caperdonich cask were bourbon and 3rd and 4th fill, I would have expected 2nd fill to be better than this.
In truth I would stay away from 1990's Caperdonich unless you know that a certain cask is ok.
I suspected that the first 4 would struggle as the liquid was so light in colour.

    Nose
Green apple, gooseberry,, apple juice and a biscuit note with a faint hint of nutmeg.
    Palate
There is some peat and spice at first and not much else.
It is devoid of flavours, I am tempted to say insipid at first.
The pepper, peat and green apple combo is fine but that is as good as it gets, a simple profile, too simple for me, competent but dull for me.
    Finish
    Finish
More green apple and more spice arrive, ok but a little dull

    With water:-
More balanced than neat and the nose has improved for sure.
Unfortunately it is boring as hell, so competent (like others in this flight) but lacking in enjoyment.

Member Waykid gave me a 20cl bottle where he had stored the leftovers from his Caperdonich. Now,  after having been open a long time and under a small, not that airtight cork, this one has mellowed a little and as such become just slightly more pleasant than when the bottle was freshly opened, but the dominant bitterness in the palate still spoils it for me.

Quite the enjoyable whisky from what I suspect is a refill (and not a first-fill) bourbon hogshead. A fruity nose, and a more spice dominated palate.
    • Nose
Fruit galore! This Caperdonich is a nice fruit basket of green apples, pears, white grapes and a touch of lemon zest and lime juice. Some banana too. Very attractive.
    • Taste
At first a touch of bitter oak and bitter grapefruit, accompanied by a wave of spices such as black cardamom, vanilla and cloves. What about the fruit, you ask? It's still here, just a little less prominent (a bit of a shame I think). I've already mentioned the grapefruit, but there's some pear and banana too.
    • Finish
Wood spices and subtle fruits. Fairly long.

    • Nose
Ground coffee, banana, pear. The coffee side fades to release the fruits.
    • Taste
Pear, citrus fruits. Mouth very powerful, peppery and spicy.
    • Finish
Long on spicy spices and fruits.
