Whisky Reviews for Aultmore 2007 DD

- Mooh... Not my favorite, as it is rather young and very one-dimensional. If you leave aside the yeasty tone in the beginning, this is a bourbon like sweet whisky, almost like a cocktail. Just first fill doesn't do the trick alone, time is an important factor. And as time is important for complexity, I'm not sure if first fills are always the good choice. Please note: this is not very bad whisky, it's easy to drink and could appeal to people who just like sweet.
Rather austere on first nosing, with sour beer (like kriek), yeast and lemon juice. The yeasty, sour note disappears almost entirely, leaving room for influence of the wood: vanilla and saw dust. Furthermore, it smells a bit artificial, like cherries on syrup and tropical fruit salad. Sniffing really deep gives you notes of the balrey: honey and muesli, with a slightly grassy undertone.
Sweet, almost bourbon like glue and solvent taste. It's the age shining through, in combination with some active wood I guess. The palate is full of cherry candy, honey, fudge, cinnamon and clove.
Ends rather dry, with only a hint of fruit and mostly hay and pepper.
- Nose: Vanilla, flowers, oakiness. Lovely powerful nose. Toffee and fudge quite sweet! Lovely bournony influences! quite an example of how a bourbon aged whisky can smell.
Initial taste: Sweet, vanilla and caramel cream. With water a floral note pops up, something like elderflower syrup.
Body: full and round. oily.
Finish: red fruit juice, lemonade syrup. and a bit of an alcohol bite, which we can forgive, this is only a baby at 6 yo.
Price: very well priced! one to keep in mind (if ever comming across).
Presentation: don't know, this was a sample
Comments: sample from Hvdree.
- Reminds me of some virgin oak GlenDronachs.
First pine needles, Badedas shower gel and tomato twigs. Then more sweetness: caramel, raspberry, vanilla and citrus. With water some couscous. The 'green' notes are more dominant than the sweet ones in my opinion.
Oak, caramel, pine wood, raspberry, citrus and pepper. More creamy with water.
Toffee, pine wood, raspberry and a whiff of smoke.
- Surprisingly delicious and especially sweet fruity whisky.
Tasty, fruity nose with hints of red fruit and some citrus, as well as fruit candies and vanilla.
Sweet mouthfeel with the red fruit, grenadine, vanilla and a bit of woodspices. Very drinkable.
Pretty long, sweet aftertaste.
