A fairly complex and full-bodied whisky, within the limits of what can be expected from a Lowland. I find the official tasting notes spot on.

This Bladnoch is a great example of the Lowland style, on lemon, vanilla and gentle oak spices with grassy notes in the background. It tastes younger than it is, but if you enjoy this style you won’t care. Rosebank could do this at 10 years old, but while it isn’t around this is the next best thing.

Strong, some pepper, sweet and fruity, some peach, orange, honey. Full body. Later on some toffee.

Still powerful, full taste, sweet, honey, pretty long finish. A lot of peach later on.

    a 5th vintage, with a superb nose !!
    • Nose
on apple-pear white fruits and some tangerine and lemon
      White chocolate
    • Taste
immediate peppery sensation, strong which breaks with what the nose let us hope !!
      harsh, bitter,
barley comes back, then a little vanilla and pear brandy
      a little dry grass
    • Finish
      bitterness that remains
      sensations a little attenuated,

Nose: Vanilla cake. Cinnamon and a faint touch of clove. White chocolate. Custard pie. Melon, key lime and kiwi. Just the faintest touch of strawberry jam on spiced loaf. Sweet, soft and creamy. Very dessert-like.

Palate: Great big arrival. Gorgeous. Apple and very clean oak. Slightly grassy and herbal. Vanilla ice cream eaten off a wooden spoon (remember those Dixie Cups of ice cream that came with the little wooden paddle spoon thing?). The crispy caramelized sugar of crème brûlée. Pudding. Spicier toward the back end, then a long warming finish.

Thoughts: A great example of Bladnoch served up nekkid and natural.

There's a code printed on the back of the label : 14/121

It could mean that it was bottled on May 1st, 2014.

Blind tasting of a sample in the BTC 2014. Hadn't recognised this one as a Bladnoch: The typical Lowlands notes are there but not dominant and the whiff of peat is a bit misleading. 87/88.
    • Nose
Apple peel, straw, dried apricot, hazelnut, malt, white chocolate and... tuna?
    • Taste
Dried apricot, caramel, yellow raisin, apple, milk chocolate, toffee, hazelnut, almond, fig and perhaps even a little peat.
    • Finish
Milk chocolate, nougatine, hazelnut and still something slightly peaty. And again that odd touch of tuna.

  13. thijs100 scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A nice enough whisky, but not balanced enough to receive a higher score.
    • Nose
Salty, but some vanilla as well. Also fruity with melon, underripe banana, grapefruit. An oaky quality with some wood shavings. Maybe some faint hay or straw.
    • Taste
Coconut, lemon, citrus and grapefruit. Salty and peppery, fiery even. A bit spicy with koriander and cinnamon. With water the palate gets drier and oakier.
    • Finish
Melon, than something sour. But then it develops into something quite nice with caramel and chocolate.

Notes based on a blind sample. The whisky tastes rather sharp, but the long and very tasty spiced finish makes up for that.
    • Nose
Shaved wood, resin, a hint of fruitiness (pineapple). More fruitiness (raspberry sweets) emerges after a while with water.
    • Taste
Cereals, sweet vanilla cream. A strong wood spice component which is enhanced with water. Balancing just on the right side of too much.
    • Finish
Firm, spicy and long. The spices last. Ginger powder, coriander powder, a hint of cumin.

  15. Toffie76 scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

with water and a little patience, the whisky takes a turn nicer. Rounder and with more fruity aromas.
It will be interesting to come back in a few weeks!
    • Nose
citrus zest, lemon, floral notes, some smoke, bark.
A lot of pear, apple, sap, resin, coriander and laurel. Toffee.
    • Taste
kaboom! it tears (unfortunately). Appearance of pepper and it persists on all development. The fruits and malty notes are hidden behind this background noise a cumbersome. A certain warmth manifests itself quickly and signifies an alcoholic integration that is more than perfectible.
    • Finish
vanilla and peppered return. Bitterness and taste of alcohol with fruit.

  16. Bishlouk scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

(note made at the opening of the bottle)

Quite imbalanced on pepper, clearly requires aeration. Pretty standard profile, could pose as a Speyside.
    • Nose
Pear, yellow apple peel, citrus fruits. Malt comes after aeration. Vanilla, bourboneux.
    • Taste
First mouth sweet on vanilla, then peppery spices cover a little everything. Pear comes out of the game.
    • Finish
Final bitter, with slight acidity. Pepper sticks to the tongue. Dryness of pear peel.

    • Taste
fruity, some caramel, winegums, honey and fruity - melon, apricot and peach

later some oily and salty notes
    • Finish

  18. Erik Elixir scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

    Tasting notes on label:
Nose: Rich toffee and lots of orange notes. Soft white chocolate and marmalade.
Palate: Lots more orange notes with some red fruits and a hint of balsamic vinegar. Honey and almonds.
Finish: The finish is creamier and lighter than the palate with lemon icing and marzipan.
