    Notes from a blind tasting:
Quite a summer whisky ... light and lively, but due to the increasing bitterness it doesn't quite fit into my prey scheme.
My tip: I have a hard time with one tip, but still want to take the risk: Glenrothes
    Resolution: Bowmore small batch
Conclusion: Well ... I'm wrong for miles. I couldn't see any smoke at all. I actually really like Bowmore, but this is not my case.
    • Nose
Pleasant fresh, fruity nose with hints of exotic fruits, bananas and acacia honey. Later a bit grassy with notes of green apples and cereals.
    • Taste
Fruity-sweet with clear roasted aromas and some honey. Later getting bitter.
    • Finish
      rather short and slightly bitter

With the ''Small Batch'' you can get to know the distillery character of ''Bowmore'' quite well. Although the barrels used do contribute to the flavor profile in part, the rather young brand also provides lively and sparkling accents. No sherry influence masks the aromas, which means that the complexity typical of this distillery suffers.
    • Nose
Lime, brown sugar, some ''Fisherman's Friend'' cough drops, dried pineapple, vanilla, coconut, the barley is still green behind the ears, heather, freshly cut grass, some fudge, feels like a refreshing sea breeze
    • Taste
Instantly the brown sugar with a squirt of lime, fudge, dried pineapple, lively malted barley, vanilla, toasted coconut flakes, heather, hints of lavender
    • Finish
Medium length, sparkling lemon zest, again vanilla, dried ginger, Szechuan pepper, black tea that has been steeped too long, lime, coconut follows, toasted oak, very light peaty smoke, again the hint of lavender

    • Nose
umami, corruption, potatoes on fire, vanilla, sea air, light smoke, zucchini, milk, smoked meat, peppers
    • Taste

    • Finish
      omelette, tomato, smoke, caramel, lime

L162365 was tasted - bottled 5.9.16 over a period of 135 days. A very tasty and positive surprise throughout.
For a NAS from Bowmore, surprisingly complex and with a few rough edges. Not as smooth as the good Bowmore 12yo, for example. Very successful bourbon barrel aging for little money (in 01/2019 for me 30 €)
    • Nose
      88 88
Oak, fruits with coconut, cinnamon, ginger, peat with ham aromas and campfire (surprisingly clearer, always well integrated and filigree peat smoke enjoyment), sweetness with vanilla and heather honey, beautiful maritime notes, citrus-lime
    • Taste
      89 89
Creamy and tasty, easy drinkable, without being under-complex. Everything that the nose promised. Extremely enjoyable throughout
    • Finish
      88 88
good medium length, citrus / lime, the sea and the peat come to the fore. Hereafter also peppery seasoning.

One of my favorite budget malts, it is young and simple but at least it is distillate driven, no oak trics, and young Bowmore can ben very nice, the spirit is very clean and not heavy on the peat.

This one lingers in the mouth, it's quite allright but not my cup of tea
    • Nose
Smoked vanilla, floral (burnt grass), fresh notes from seabreeze

Gentle, smoky, floral, fruity, mouth warming

Peat discrete, but a good dose of wood chips. Later, a little old side that gives way to the famous lemon-cereal couple. In the mouth, spices and peat, suppleness approaching a blend a little watery. The spices are sweet in the finish, where fruits come, with a citrus aftertaste. A dram a little too easy to drink, but far from unpleasant. The most "weak" Bowmore I've ever tasted. Enthusiasm 3/5

pale gold color, peaty nose, vanilla, maritime, a little sweet, yellow fruits, very nice, very mild gourmet attack without losing the peaty / marine side, very easy to drink, a little short finish, we feel the 40% lacks some punch

  20. Eilean a' Cheo scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

N: woody, carrot, grapefruits, salt, even some peaches a bit sharp and sour but enjoyable, subtle peatiness underneath

M: good body for 40% in line with the nose..sweet and sour light bowmoreness of the so promissing new era

    F: short and fresh

    • Nose
Of course. Known smell. Delicious salty tones, seaweed. Less complex than the 12 year old so out of my head.
    • Taste
Beautiful moderate salt. The fruit tones are balanced.
    • Finish
      Zige, vegetable

  22. Cubey666 scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

    Quite an easy peasy Bowmore.

On the nose some tropical fruits, light peaksmoke and some vanilla and honey sweetness, as we know it with bourbon barrels.

On the taste not much surprises so, gently peat smoke with brackish water (light salty). Some fresh limes, perhaps even some pineapple?

The finish is a bit short, and follows the taste.

This Bowmore feels quite youngish, and i expected a bit more power from it, it is perhaps too easy drinkable, but very good price quality.

    Bowmore on a budget.

    Good value for money.
    • Nose
      Basic young Bowmore.

Lightly peated. Salty and a little floral.
    • Taste
Gentle peat, light salt, and there's some rather good oak.

Feels a bit thin but gains strenght with a build up of spice.
    • Finish
Short of medium but quite some spice there.

  25. Calmar scored this whisky 77 points Connoisseur

Primitive, subtil, watery, aroma, believe that no, the taste is very poor, aftertaste is the only thing that is worthy of attention here, but even only in comparison with the flavor / taste; sad, miserable, meaningless.
    • Nose
Closed, dry grain, plastic, raw wood, weak lemon notes.
    • Taste
Soft, sweetish-oak, caramel sweetness, a little ginger, grapefruit, very watery.
    • Finish
Spicy, berry sour, orange peel, bread notes.

I like this whisky; for me, it's a solid value-for money malt with a good balance of flavors.  Light peat, lemon, a little saltiness, a little vanilla, putty (or Play-Doh, perhaps), and a subtly smoky finish.  Not a huge cast of flavors, but the ones that are there are clear and distinct.  Very drinkable.  Undemanding, perhaps, but tasty.  I would prefer it if it had an age-statement (even a small one, like seven?), or a 43% abv, but at the price asked there isn't too much to complain about.

A nice beginner of the range. Would you have to try against the 12er.
    • Nose
Citrus, the bowmoretypical maritime smoke, some vanilla, some oak. Overall, very fresh
    • Taste
bitter-sweet entry, mild, a bit thin, but then vanilla, peat, sea breeze
    • Finish
Peat, a little bitter oak, a bit maritime, Bowmore. Unfortunately rather short

Very boring Bowmore. Totally no body in both the nose, taste and aftertaste. You taste that it is whisky but otherwise there is really nothing. The price is of course also to, but even for that money you better buy something else (and better).

Tasted from a friend's 35cl small bottle. The nose was a not-so-nice mix of erikeeper glue and toothpicks, and the palate didn't deviate much from that. I don't think I'd have recognized this cocktail of generic woodcraft aromas a Bowmore in a blind setting. The tasting notes below speak of a much richer whisky. Maybe the stuff in the 35cl bottles is worse?

A light, smoky, slightly toothed whisky. Easy to drink, but not good for a Bowmore 12-year-old. Tasted at home and at Kontiolahti, a bottle purchased from Joensuu Alko 6/2015.
    • Nose
Light scent, alcohol, sea water, citrus

I've had a heate/love relation with this Bowmore.

To begin with it's a very light Islay, m tase seems to be more heavy. But..

N: The nose is quiet nice, and I can find myself in the profile sketched by the distiller. It keeps being good but it's a delicate Islay.

T: However, the taste partly can't follow it up. In my experience the first few sips are nice, quiet nice actually... But after a few sips the taste seems to disappear more and more, as if I'm heavily drowning it and keep pouring water to it more and more...
A sip of a glass of water doesn't solve this, however I found that eating something in between solves is mostly. But my problem is that I'm not always in the mood of eating in between. Sometimes I just want to enjoy the dram. I found adding water worsens the problem. I thing the low ABV of 40% is the cause, I would like to thy it again when they would bring it out at 43/46%.

F: Good but short, nothing bad, nothing spectacular. As expected for the price point.

C: I would not buy it again and do not recommend it if you like heavy Islays. If you like delicate whisky's this might be a nice entry to Islay bourbon style whisky, al dough there might be better ones at the same price point.

    • Nose
Peat with mild earthy, lots of citrus, vanilla. Citruses dominate and give the scent freshness. (85 b)
    • Taste
On oily tongue, unfortunately, but thin. Sweet, then citrus and gum and soot come in the flavor. The peat is here converted to rubber. (83 b)

I have tried this Bowmore with the specially developed chocolate. The salt and peat work really well with the creamy chocolate. (the Darkest combo was not that successful in my opinion).

  60. zinaf scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Not bad at all drinking Bowmore.
    • Nose
Smoke and brine; creamy vanilla follows; touch of lemon peel at back after a few minutes.
Water: the vanilla is more prominent. The peat has been toned down. A honey sweetness emerges.
    • Taste
Pleasant sweetness with a touch of salt. The peat affirms itself at the back of the tongue.
Water: The peat is the first flavour now. The palate gets flat if more than a few drops are introduced.
    • Finish
surprisingly long - touch of pepper, then creamy feeling - very sweet and savoury (some herbal bitterness gets through).

Terroir and heavy, if you want. It's like a Maroilles too old: there are those who love, and then the others. Must be from the corner, I guess.
    • Nose
Meat of mutton, sheep fat, sheep wool, oak behind, iodine, shells, Indian ink. Bizarre and not sexy. Very roots and vintage on one side, and modern on the other. We must imagine a scene, I think, of the kind: I eat clams and a mechoui in a field where sheep graze at the edge of the sea, it rains and I put a sweater wool. Ahem.
    • Taste
It's fat and balanced, nothing to say. Iodine, mutton and oak (very well melted, oak, for that matter). It's consistent with the nose.
    • Finish
Oak on which a flock of sheep would have rubbed (leaving the fat) with a clam peel.

It's an easily drinkable Bowmore. I don't like it. It so different from any Bowmore I've tasted so far. The absence of the sea salt is really a no go for me. To me, it seems a too much watered down Tempest without the complexity.
    • Nose
Malty, bourbon sweet, green fruit. A hint of smoke. Light. Not very complex.
    • Taste
Again malty, butterscotch, some smoke. Only a very little bit of the (to me) typical sea salty Bowmore taste. Some fruity notes too. Sherry-like red fruit. The sweetness of the bourbon barrels is also present.
    • Finish
Creamy, minty yes. Short. Almost no smoke or peat.

gingerbread. Honey and vanilla custard. The peat is hardly noticeable. Just a
very light smoky edge. Fresh and very accessible.
    • Taste
      It is light and somewhat
creamy on the palate, soft on the smoke (although that grows bigger quickly)
and very fruity. Again the fruit from the nose, but with a slightly tropical
edge. A touch of oak, loads of vanilla, a drop of honey and finally a nice
pinch of salt. But it is mostly somewhat tropical.
    • Finish
      The finish is
somewhat short to my taste, on smoke, and a bit minty.
