Comment: Now that I had the 1973 (92 points), the 1972 (95 points) and the 1970s (93 points) in the glass, I saved the “darkest” of the four to the end. And I was not disappointed. The nose and the taste are the absolute top hammer for my personal taste. Exactly my thing: dark, strong, fruity sherry with strong chocolate and coffee notes. An absolute highlight that you probably won't get anywhere else today. I was able to get the bottle for a good 850 euros and I don't regret buying it. The Glenfarclas 1971 is not only an absolute masterpiece but also has a lot of history and inspiration that make it a very special drop. Since I like it a bit better in the nose and mouth than the 1972, I give it a smooth 96 points and the rating "Best Whisky in 2020";) (until now)

Nose: wow! Dark, old sherry! The really strong, old and massive board that we all dream of! You are literally overwhelmed by dark fruits such as pickled raisins, plums, cherries, blackberries and everything the sherry shelf has to offer. There are also clear notes of dark chocolate, caramel, coffee, cocoa, leather, cigar box, tobacco and a hint of wet leaves, paired with sour apple and a hint of cinnamon. However, these aromas are constantly balanced with the strong, dark sherry notes. The nose is an absolute dream!

Taste: The 1971 Glenfarclas is creamy on the tongue. The "only" 43% wrote properly. The sweetness is immediately present on the front part of the tongue. Here the wonderful nose in the mouth continues very well. Cherries, raisins, blackberries and plums are a wonderful counterpart to the strong chocolates and coffee notes. After a while you have the feeling of having an iced coffee in your mouth, the Glenfarclas is so creamy. The flow of saliva is once again extremely stimulated. It is a wonderful “duel” of chocolate coffee and wood notes with the sweet aromas of sherry. With the exception of the 1961 Glenfarclas, I have never seen anything like this.

Finish: long to very long. Here the cherries, the coffee and the cocoa are in balance. Everything is still very present. After a while, spicy notes of oak are added and the saliva in the mouth is still running. Slowly, the mouth becomes a little bit bitter, so that a wonderful dark chocolate taste with a cherry frame spreads, which only flies very slowly and leaves a wonderful mouthfeel that is second to none. Wow!

    • Nose
Wow, fat dark fruits, strong umami notes reminiscent of Mortlach and beef broth. Leather, soy sauce, liquorice, chocolate, very creamy yoghurt tones and salt, damp leaves and earth, what a complex malt !!!
    • Taste
sweet and delicate, cherries and chocolate, gradually leather and some OBF, wonderfully light but complex
    • Finish
relatively short, spicy, creamy, cherries in cream

A wonderful whisky, if only the too short finish would not be. I must confess, that spoils my enjoyment a little bit (which leads to the point deduction).
    • Nose
Nutty (almond), pickled fruits, oak, pencil, a little resin, something like bark or mulch, some dry tobacco and, of course, clearly sherry
    • Taste
cool and spicy, slightly bitter, oak, sherry, chocolate, iced coffee, dark caramel
    • Finish
rather short, a little chocolate and coffee; Something remains even after minutes still on the palate hang, which I can not describe, somehow krautig or woody perhaps
