Whisky Reviews for The Peat Monster 10th Anniversary CB

- Bought at Park Liquor on Madison in New York. Bit of let down--too much Octomore (one dimensional).
- In 2003 Compass Box (CB) created a bespoke blend of very peaty single malts for the Goldstein’s of Park Avenue Liquor Shop in New York City. Christened ‘Monster,’ and labeled with a strange creature that captured the essence of the whisky. Monster was a cask strength bottling of just 2 casks, one distilled in Port Askaig, the other in Kennethmont. The popularity of Monster was such that in 2004 CB decided to launch it as a permanent part of their range, changing the name to ‘The Peat Monster’ and bottling it at 46% ABV.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Peat Monster’s release, Compass Box produced a special recipe of The Peat Monster.
Bottled at 48.9% ABV, the limited edition was comprised of Islay single malts distilled on the south shore of the island and in the village of Port Askaig, balanced with a smoky Highland single malt and a fruity oily malt from the village of Brora. This anniversary edition was limited to only 5,700 bottles worldwide.
Taking the celebration one step further, CB commemorated their collaboration with Park Ave Liquor with a special cask strength version of their celebratory bottling. Sold exclusively by Park Avenue, CB produced only 300 bottles of this 54.7% ABV cask strength release.
- Review is of the Astor Wines limited edition of 300 bottles.
- I drank from a Limited Edition 1500ml bottle.
