I have struggled to find a decent Bowmore at a reasonable price lately. This is no exception.
    • Nose
      77 77
Sweet, yellow fruits, honey, some citrus, hint of vanilla.
Malt and a hint of "clean" smoke.
If I was mean I would say dull and boring, but I'm not, so I'll go with little excitement.
    • Taste
      80 80
A bit better on the palate, still on sweet and yellow.
The smoke is more expressive here.
It's not bad, but I struggle to engage and really befriend it.
    • Finish
      72 72
      Almost astringent. bitter wood.
Sweeter with some nutty notes on the very end of a short of medium length finish.
With a sort of OK body it has the kind of finish that actually discourage me from taking another sip.

Without question, this is still a good single malt. But that's the minimum I expect from ''Bowmore''. Unfortunately, this composition lacks creativity, which is already indicated on the label by "matured in finest oak casks". Tasty yes, but the promised complexity is missing and makes this whisky interchangeable like underpants.
    • Nose
Pineapple and tangerine, fatty smoky notes, dried fruits with white chocolate, citrus zest, breathed vanilla, nectarines, peaches, toffee, hints of Pina Colada
    • Taste
Thick-cut orange marmalade, lavender honey, resinous mango, lime, a nice peated malt note develops, spice takes hold, white pepper, lavender
    • Finish
Medium length, cappuccino with a bit of cocoa powder on top, lavender, peppermint, salty lick stone, delicate peat smoke note, leaves a slightly waxy mouthfeel, a bit of liquorice, anise

A colleague brought this bottle for me from abroad, I am still grateful to him for that. The whisky tasted very good to me!
    The color is deep gold
    • Nose
The fragrance has aromas of vanilla, coconut milk poached peach, orange and lime, enveloped in salty peat smoke.
    • Taste
The taste has notes of sour peat are complemented by tropical fruit notes, of pineapple, mango and kiwi. The whole remains characteristically Islay by notes of sea salt and olive oil.
    • Finish
The finish is long and lively with an accent of honey.

Most of the whiskys for bottling Gold Reef were matured in first fill ex-bourbon barrels.
Islay Island is also known for its fantastic marine life. A golden reef is created when the rays of the sun make the corals on the ocean floor sparkle.
    • Nose
      A little smoke. Oak.
    • Taste
      Slightly salty, citrus, light vanilla.
    • Finish
Medium-long finish, smoky, somewhat bitter, oak and liquorice

it takes some time in the glass.
If you give it to him, he shows an aromatic side.
Admittedly not a monster of complexity, but easy drinking and with nice aromas
    • Nose

Smoke, maritime notes, some salt, some vanilla, caramel, fruity towards berries and dark. Fruit. Some apricots and dried fruits. To background light chocolate
    • Taste

slightly sweet and fruity with a more subtle hint of smoke. a little salty, fruity. Chocolate, sweet, then slightly bitter.

rather short, slightly sweet, some chocolate. dark fruits, slightly salty.

Bowmore (Enigma) was the first Islay I bought, so I have a special relation with the brand. Now, with my experience, I still like it but it is my less favorite Islay brand. Gold Reef is ok to me, above the average Bowmore.

    • Taste

My second experience with Bowmore, and to say nice. An interesting combination of sweeter smoke in aroma with salinity, it develops in a glass.
    • Nose
Wood, malt, grass tones, something tanned I can't describe (like tanned chocolate crunchy candies). Salt.
    • Taste
Initially a little bit rough onset with a little smoke, but quite interesting and quite sleek develops.
    • Finish
Sweeter and sleek, after a while he overlaps into a slain despite a little roughness

Solid thing for 45 € / liter, the character he comes to me as an intermediate of old 17er and Legend before, of alleged sherry casks I do not really notice what. Personally, I prefer the 12er a bit (and even cheaper), which has more clarity, elegance.
    • Nose
mild, dry, slightly bitter smoke, malt, grain, vanilla, some citrus and hard pear
    • Taste
Malt, cereals, overripe banana, milk chocolate, the smoke is very cozy and contributes only a slightly tart touch, a touch of salt / seagrass, and there could also be a violet note here, if I'm not just imagining that
    • Finish
medium, milk chocolate, coffee, some pepper

Heat on chili powder, kimchi. Vanilla, coconut and smoked meat.

P- Sweet malt with earthy coating. Traces of szechuan pepper tartness in the middle, coastal and creamy.

F- Medium-long, smooth, good spicy strength with sweet vanilla lingers. Return of iodine and tar.

This was an ok expression; the nose was actually quite nice but then barely any complexity to the palate or finish. It’s drinkable but unremarkable.

A dispensable whisky that does not bring much ...
    • Nose
Apple, pear, vanilla, a hint of eucalyptus. A peat rather medicinal. It's sweet, round, maritime with seaweed and salt. A little apricot and liquorice
    • Taste

A, I think, disappointing bottling from Bowmore. Very pale.
    • Nose
Mild peat and fruit notes. A little vanilla. An unusual Bowmore nose. You could call it mild - or boring.
    • Taste
Some peat, some smoke, some sea salt. A little fruit (apricot and lemon), a little sherry. Overall, the palate makes a very watery impression.
    • Finish
      Medium long, getting dry.

  44. Rom did not rate this whisky Expert Junior

Smoky nose and very fruity with fresh and exotic fruits, oak. The mouth is in the same spirit with a pleasant texture, very easy to drink. Long finish on smoked fruits. Good q / p although in the long run the wooded side could be a little too much.

  45. Gloin scored this whisky 75 points Expert Senior

The GR has much more character and also a finish that deserves this term. He really can not convince me either. In direct comparison to the Black Rock tasted.
    • Nose
Sharper, the 3% more I notice immediately. He looks much rougher than the BR. The maritime is stronger, even if the smoke is very reserved as in the BR. Behind the sea with sweet and sour citrus fruits lies a caramel note, which rounds off the rough character nicely. Affects me a little more interesting than the BR, even if the salivation is not quite as excited.
    • Taste
Citrus, less sweet, oak and smoke are recognizable, though not dominant. After a while, the GR is sweeter, but remains a bit more versatile than the BR
    • Finish
Smoked pineapple served on a wooden board, much longer finish than the BR, if not really long. Some bittersweet oak

Nose: Nice smooth melange of citrus , peat , honey and ripe mango with a hint of sea breeze.

Palate: Zesty smoky and quite fresh. With mouth watering rich malty feel to it. Smoke, malt and a nice oaky touch.

Finish: Wood. Creamy milk chocolate spread. Mango bits. Oak.

Another lovely dram, easy drinking and quite nice actually. If i had to choose between the three, this would not be my first choice, but it’s much better than many TR expressions you my stumble upon. You got to give it to Bowmore for creating 2 lovely NAS which do not feel young.

    • Nose
Peat, sweet lime, vanilla cake, malt and orange. Drops dead when adding water.
    • Taste
Peat, malt, dark chocolate, orange, sweet lime, caramel, salt and clove.
    • Finish
Peat, dark chocolate, lime and salt.

It's okay. Not awesome. The mixture of sherry and bourbon casks seems not to lead anywhere. No age statement, seems young. This is better than the Black Rock, though. I won't buy another bottle.
    • Nose
Quite strong. Salty, peaty, some caramel, some chocolate, some red fruits, but also some fresh green fruits. There is also some vanilla in there.
    • Taste
First sweet, then salty, peat, chocolate, some red fruits. The freshness is gone. Some vanilla, smoke.
    • Finish
Not very long. Over ripe red fruits, peat, smoke, drying, chocolate, bitter, oaky. The bitterness, dryness, smokiness and chocolate  linger.

very pleasant and much better than I expected due to the previous notes that I have read.
I like the honey and creamy mouthfeel
Also get an "easy-drinking" from me
    • Nose
at the beginning, there are not many flavors.
it takes a few minutes in the glass to unfold
again subtle smoke, sweet Zirusfrüchte, oak and honey, yes a lot of honey. Very pleasant
    • Taste

In any case, better than the Black Rock, but I would not take him with me on the next flight, because he is a bit too dry for me.
    • Nose
Light smoke, citrus fruits, sweet grapes, very refreshing in any case
    • Taste
Smoky bacon, very smoky, again the citrus fruits, but the smoke dominates, now the oak comes through a bit, on the whole rather dry

Orange mango pour.  Nose is pleasant though fairly plain -- soft dried apricots, lightly smoky peat, sea foam, alcohol burn.  Good amount of dried lighter fruits -- bananas, golden raisins, of course apricots.  Mouth is fairly sweet, lots of dried golden raisins, apricots, bananas again.  Medium sea salt and peat smoke, of course.  Nice and pleasant, the most memorable thing about this might be the time i bought the bottle at the airport in Turkey while quite sick.
