  1. Cask1988 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Glenlivet did a great job with this one! Not only by letting fans join to point out the most popular of the 3.  They found a great combination of different casks which are responsible for the depth that is inhere.
    • Nose
Wow thats a big nose! A lot of sherry influences! I suspect some virgin oak as well? Honey, dried plumbs, Almond, ripe banana's, Meller candy. This is a well rounded and balanced nose!
    • Taste
Slightly sharp on arrival. after that a quite thick mouth filling entity. This one can handle a few drops of water. Caramel, almonds, again a hint ripe banana's and a tender spicy note
    • Finish
Again i suspect some virgin oak in the finish. quite surprisingly there is some vanilla and light fruits coming through. Some honey liquor note and bourbon wood. This finish stays there for quite a long time. very pleasant!! There is actually some cigar at the very end.

  2. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

I like it! In the wet, a few bourbon notes are also good, in the mouth you have it against the sherry freight then difficult.
    • Nose
very light and fresh, immediately creamy caramel, then sweet red fruits, raspberries, honey, behind a pleasant spiciness, leathery, moist tobacco, some oak, now also peachy, slightly sour, tingling in the nose, vanilla, a beautiful harmoniously composed Nose, now comes hazelnut, after the first sip he also has something slightly peppery
    • Taste
In the mouth dominate first the sherry notes, fruity, again strong raspberry, sweet, then comes out behind it again some dry oak, now also the nuts, slightly acidic, also has something of effervescent powder
    • Finish
he gets back creamy, with caramel, nut and still some raspberry, and oak is also there.

beautiful Glenlivet, fruity floral and chocolate, elegant and all very harmonious. OK for the price. But nothing outstanding either.

a bit of pineapple on the nose, and a bit of pepper in the finish. This is a bit different 'Livet. I quite like it. Nothing stunning, just a good solid dram that makes me thing of sitting in the guardians library at Glenlivet.

  10. DramGoodLife scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

Lacks balance and the beauty of Glenlivet.
Allowing the Guardians to pick their own whisky was a great idea, interesting how they picked a very non Glenlivet like whisky.
    • Nose
      80 80
Very thick and heavy, the density noses like a cask strength. A slap in the face with caramel and treacle, sticky and sweet. Some toasted nuts with a handful even burnt.
With time the sweet caramel note takes over and dominates the nose. Literally smells like a pot of caramel, has almost an artificial sweetness to it.
    • Taste
      86 86
Sherry casks serving up dessert; caramel coated nuts, sticky toffee pudding and a helping of chocolate cake.
Glenlivet 18 in parts with a little more oomph
    • Finish
      84 84
Toasted oak with a slight wisp of smoke and a coating of thick caramel.

    Nose:
Ooooemph! that's an very very good nose. Very Glenlivet-y. There is some green apples in there, load of other fruits, like plums. There is indeed an hint of the sherry barrels they' ve been using. But there is also quite some wood influence. With water and some time it gives some wood shavings and more caramel. It is a splendid nose!

    Taste:
Sweet, caramel, fudge, then fruity it tastes quite mature given this is a NAS. With water it gets a bit weaker. But still quite some bourbon influences.

    Body:
    Smooth as silk.

    Finish:
Medium-long length. Very mature bourbon barrel influences, so quite some caramel, vanilla en wood. There are not many tannins in here. At the end of the finish there is some sherry cask influence.

    Price:

The nose is very promising. The finish has too much bitterness in it, however it improved a bit over time.

It´s a very drinkable dram but not worth the price.

Nose: Sweet, Caramel, Butterscotch, Vanilla. Very warm and creamy. Red Fruits and some Spices & Nuts from the sherry. Some Wax & Honey. Later on some Mocca & Milk Chocolate.

Taste: Gentle, Sweet arrival. Then some light Oaky Peppers. Stays Sweet & Fruity

Finish: Gentle, some light Pepper. Sweet & some Bitter Oak. Medium lenght

Nose is the best part. Taste and finish are average at first, but do improve over time.

A good expression, definitely some older spirit in here. Just nothing that really makes it stand out, and not worth the price asked.
    • Nose
Gooseberries. Varnished wood. Apples, roasted. Brown sugar. Bit of camphor. Dry grass
    • Taste
Wood spice. Hard cider. Bitters. Caramel pudding. Bit of a nutty note.
    • Finish
      Long. Wood spice. Gooseberries. Nuts.

  20. Segens scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Reminds me a bit on Nikka Yoichi 10. But the Nikka is much better balanced. A good dram but not more. 85€ is too much!
    • Nose
sweet - peaches, raisins not perfectly balanced with the alcohol but good
    • Taste
Still a lot of sweetness, the alcohol is dominant, still not perfectly balanced. not bad but also not very good...
    • Finish
The finish is the best of this dram as it is warm, mild and a lot of sweetness in the back.

Didn't find the taste delivered on the noses promise. This seemed a tad young and raw for my liking. at 48.7% I did not expect is to be a pussycat but I have had much better tastes at 60% where the rawness did not show. With water the chocolate orange and fruitcake tastes start to  come through. This is a complex whisky but is quite young in character and lacks cohesion and balance.
    • Nose
Rich, warm and spicy at first. Then some underlying fruitiness, nutmeg, pineapple, oranges, raisins, vanilla, light freshly sawn oak building stronger as you got further into nosing. With water the wood dissipates somewhat in favour of the fruit and spice. The sherry barrels start to and dominate over the bourbon.
    • Taste
Spicy (Nutmeg) spice with some chocolate and orange notes. Rawish and a bit unbalanced. Needs water to calm it down. Slight perfumy and floral quality with water and those chocolate ornge notes start to assert themselves positively.
    • Finish
Short to medium finish.Spicy and woody, quite astringent drying effect.

    • Taste
Caramel fudge, vanilla pudding, banana, white chocolate, cherry, vanilla cake, apple and raspberry.
    • Finish
Toffee, yellow raisin, banana, apple, cocoa, cigars and white chocolate.

    blind tasting

    Color: amber

Nose: IDas should be a sherry afterrip.
Dried fruits, milk chocolate, raisins and already neat oak

Mouth: raisins, milk coffee, dates? Shortbread and cocoa

Finish: Medium long. Disappear relatively quickly, but then comes back a little peppery again.

Conclusion: a good malt. The finish could be a bit more complex.

the nose of the whisky is a bit weak, which is more than just ironed out by the excellent taste and finish - only to be recommended
    • Nose
mild smell, difficult to grasp, vanilla in any case
    • Taste
warming and very complex, fruity with spices, cinnamon, soft
    • Finish

Balance: A powerful and spicy dram,
which I find quite interesting. Love the fairly high alcohol level of 48.7%
which suites the whisky very nice. (22/25)
    • Nose
      Right away, it strikes me
as a bit young but then I notice raisins, vanilla, fudge, plums and lots of
spices. Quite complex and interesting, a whisky you can nose for hours. (19/25)
    • Taste
      A lovely bitter sweetness, more
plums, figs, vanilla and the spices of course. Quite powerful but smooth at the
same time. Although it has a noticeable sherry influence, this whisky is not
your typical Speyside single malt. It is impressively complex and full of
      spices. (22/25)
    • Finish
      The finish is medium to
long and continues to reveal more spices and fruits with hints of fudge and
      vanilla. (22/25)

    Pernod Ricard says;

The online voting session allowed the fans of the brand across 37 different countries to take part in the creation of a new ‘The Glenlivet’ limited edition. The fans had the chance to savour three single malts crafted by Alan Winchester, Distilling Manager, and they chose the one called “Exotic” over the “Classic” and “Revival” ones. “Exotic” will become in March “The Guardians’ Chapter” single malt, named after the fans who took a significant part in the voting. To inspire the fans, The Glenlivet Guardians website carried additional content around three themes: “Exotic”, “Revival” and “Classic“. Each of them was enriched with content dialing to the interests of the fans: travels, cars, gastronomy or even architecture has been mentioned.“This is an opportunity to savour a unique, limited edition, single malt that’s already admired and desired by thousands of whisky lovers. Our Guardians have written a new chapter in the distillery’s distinguished history, this will be their legacy.” declared Alan Winchester, Distilling Manager. The winning “exotic” single malt was created using a mixture of casks including oak barrels with the addition of whisky from ex-sherry butts. The resulting “The Guardians’ Chapter” bottling will display fruity notes and an addition of spicy notes. The single malt will be bottled and distributed in limited quantities globally from March 2014.

Nice, sweet and aromatic nose on notes of vanilla, pineapple, milk chocolate, grapefruit and fudge. A pinch of salt. Very lively and vibrant. I love it. This Glenlivet has a powerful taste, thanks to the sherrywood I imagine. The sherry brings chocolate, plum and raisins, followed by salt, grapefruit and vanilla-fudge. Some light spices and little rubber. God rubber though. Full, rounded and creamy mouthfeel. Goes down very easy. The finish is rather long and creamy, on vanilla, some exotic fruits and a growing spiciness. Great dram.
