yet another Littlemill '92, and yet another fine one!

clearly that Littlemill profile I adore, bit of cardboard, bit of waxiness, orchard fruits and white pepper!

    excellent choice Jurgen!

Nose: Notes of vanilla, orange, flowers, some grass
Taste: Moderately complex item with a combination of citrus, vanilla and orange notes. and light notes of orange peel. Some exotic fruits.
Rating: 88 | 100. The position was not bad. A slightly warming finish. A position worth trying and whether you should have a whole bottle of it, it seems to me that not anymore.

A good Littlemill which I find representative of the distillery: fruity, floral and slightly spicy
    • Nose

What jumps out are the spices. Uncommon at Littlemill. Then comes the exotic fruity side and in the third plan the cut grass.
    • Taste
      90 90
The mouth is less spicy. Exotic fruits, cut grass pulling on the hay, without exuberance, all in finesse despite the undeniable presence of alcohol. The spices stand out at the end of the mouth, pepper in particular, which gives it more passion.

On the spice / fruity mixture

Littlemill is one of those distilleries that make me regret I didn't start reading books on whisky earlier on to absorb knowledge on and appreciation for these Champions League players. My first meet and greet with Littlemill (a 1991 bottled by The Nectar and La Maison du Whisky) had an incredible wow-factor. This Mercenary bottling walks the same path.

This 1992 Littlemill went on sale for €115. Very reasonable for a 21 year old bottling from an almost legendary and closed distillery. Sometimes I hate my own stubbornness that keeps me from buying bottles in the > €100 range...
    • Nose
The Lowlands freshness clearly wants to say hello! Grass, vanilla and young white grapes prelude almond pastries with sugar icing. Add the scent of a glass of white chocolate milk and you are all set for a fab evening. Don't forget the scented candles with vanilla, lemon and peach sorbet.

Water enhances the almond flavours. An old fashioned frangipane pie with a very light medicinal touch. Or fruit tea with mandarin oranges.
    • Taste
Freshly cut grass and vanilla are again the dominant flavours on the palate. The whisky gets creamier with notes of lemon tart and sweetened whipped cream. Oak, grapes and lemon rind add a small touch of bitterness.

A dash of water gives way to a spicy sweetness with the usual suspects from a bourbon cask: dried bananas and coconut.
    • Finish
A slightly drying aftertaste refreshes the palate for the next sip. Oak chips, citrus and dried banana flakes.

    Great Littlemill, but
we already knew that of this vintage. Available for 115 EUR. Thanks for the
    sample, Jurgen.
    • Nose
      A very waxy nose,
quite creamy, on almond cake, rhubarb marmalade and citrus. That last smells
mostly like mandarin and lime, but there is also a slice of grapefruit to be
detected. A drop of Fanta. Freshly cut grass. Soft on the spices, by the way,
      but nevertheless a powerful nose.
    • Taste
      Ka-boom! It explodes
on the palate. Very spicy now, with citrus still to the fore, followed closely
by a mildly drying green tea and coconut. Powerful, spicy and very good indeed!
    • Finish
      In the warm and
rather long finish, a bit of grapefruit zest appears.

  18. Bishlouk scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Very very fine and subtle, it is a dram that must be allowed to evolve in the glass over time to enjoy all its facets. Alcohol is perfectly balanced and never harms.
    • Nose
Based on a mixture of pear (in the foreground) and yellow apple (minority). A small tip of ether that disappears very quickly. The potency of the pear then calms down, revealing beeswax, peach and a freshness of rhubarb impregnated with morning dew.
    • Taste
Sweet yellow fruit compote, melted butter, honey and a hint of spicy green tea.
    • Finish
Average on an explosion of sweet spices in the mouth which calms down very quickly to give place to a slight wooded drought. And always this omnipresent fruit compote.

Unusual Littlemill. Like most of his bottlings, not the tipical taste of the distillery. I like this one a lot. Like Kaymeertens says, even a little odd notes but that works very good with this whisky.

This one really shows a lot of character. It may have some odd notes, but that makes it even more interesting.
    • Nose
Waxy motor oil upfront, you may want to give it some time to calm down. Then cookie dough (or dog biscuits?) and honey, followed by vanilla shortbread with a layer of caramel. A little nuttiness like almond or chestnut, a whiff of brawn (hoofdkaas), plus some orange and unripe banana to top it off. Water makes the caramel more fudgy. So even if the first impression may be heavy, have a little patience and you will be rewarded.
    • Taste
Almond, oak, orange and a little leather. Then the malty cookies with vanilla and caramel. Quite a lot of spirit initially despite its age, so no problem to add a few drops of water.
    • Finish
Cooky, toffee, almond, vanilla, lime, orange, chestnut and banana. In the background a slight meatiness that I can't describe much different than 'frikandel'.
