These rare, extremely old sherry malts are certainly not balanced and for many people they are "over". But you hit my nerve exactly. Without wanting to give too many taste descriptions:
"Herbal candy pickled in old sherry"
    Just lovely!

the nose of something this old and fantastic, this is one to just smell. It gives no indication of being old at all. However, come the delivery itself it makes itself clear. This is wood and tar and although not as bitter as some old Strathislas it still has many of those aspects that I don't appreciate in old sherry maturation. So a mixed bag overall but that nose, what made that?

    Notes by Gordon & MacPhail:

    Aroma:
Rich Sherry influences with hints of beeswax, red berries, and fruit cake. A slight floral edge with a touch of beeswax develops.

    Aroma with Water:
Sherry notes with fruit aromas, hints of banana and stewed apple. Subtle vanilla and coffee bean aromas linger.

    Taste:
Peppery with stewed rhubarb, dark chocolate, and sweet orange flavours combine with a subtle cigar ash edge.

    Taste with Water:
Sweet and peppery with grapefruit, lemon, and lime flavours. Sherry influences remain with a touch of cigar ash. Body Full.

    Finish:
    Long and smooth.
