I'm too earthy to smoke, and especially the strong chlorine note bothers me, I probably will not be a big Ardbeg fan anymore. The sweet cream sweets but I found very nice.
    • Nose
Very strong, earthy, ashen smoke. After some time comes a sweet note with vanilla and caramel, and makes me think of creamy sweets. Also a salty, maritime note with strong chlorine is there, as well as a few subtle herbal notes. I have to look for fruit, but then find yellow pears and peach.
    • Taste
Easy onset, silky mouthfeel. The smoke is strong on the tongue, you really have the feeling as if man chewed on a lump of soil, together with a sip of salty chlorine water. Then comes a strong sweetness with vanilla, caramel and again the creamy candies, plus the yellow fruit.
    • Finish
Medium. The smoke is slow, but not so strong anymore, a peppery spiciness and dark caramel are the distinctive flavors.

Quite a nice Ardbeg, but it lacks complexity to be a real stunner and it appears a tad young. Kicks of with a nice lemony sweetness and vanilla sweets but adds more and more of Islay as time passes. Salty seawater, seaweed, perhaps some oysters next to earthy peat and smoke weaving through. Nice, but I would prefer the Uigeadail everyday.

Definitely good stuff but in my opinion quite a lot younger whiskies involved here. Compared to the Uigeadail this Corryvreckan is a decent runner up.
    • Nose
Inititialy there is a candylike smell. With freshly baked cake. Clear hints of french oak and grapes. It reminds me of cognac/armagnac influences. Nice level of peat smoke. Earthy tones. With water it gives very subtle sweet soft spices.
    • Taste
Initialy it seems to have a decent body. Slightly buttery. Again there’s that french oak again. With water it tends to get quite sharp. It reveals the younger base of the whisky.
    • Finish
Not to long. Peat smoke stays there for a while. Sweet spices cover the mouth. Very pleasant.

[October, 2015] Together with friends I emptied a bottle that I bought for 62 Euro in July, 2014.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5. I took no notes.

better than "exclusive" limited edition releases. highly recommended. very fresh sometimes abrasive - clearly some younger whiskies here.

becomes sweeter and smokier with water. theres green apple and vanilla after a few minutes. a lovely viscous oily body. smoked salt!!!

  10. Alex scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

good whisky, but not as good as earlier batches, which most of them had a richer, bigger and darker taste.
    • Nose
as expected and similar to all the previous versions of Corryvreckan I had so far: earthy peat smoke, brine, coastal notes, aniseed, herbal and more earthy notes. In the background some fruits. Nice Ardbeg nose
    • Taste
good attack and quite rich, but not at complex and layered as the aromas promised. Good mouthfeel though, light oily texture. Half sweet half dry on peat smoke, brine, herbs and earthy notes and a bit of mocha coffee
    • Finish
very long, spicy, fizzy and some dark chocolate
