Color
Amontillad
Nose

orange notes, maritime, light smoke, new leather, light nuts, citrus grass, aromatic oils/yeast

Taste

oily citrus, rich grains, orange notes, tart, marzipan, smoke, grass

Finish

medium, orange tart and marmalade, caramel, light grass, nuts, marmalade and nuts at the back followed by smoke and grass

Comments

good, but i was expecting more as it is a 30 year old and priced as such. the body is too watery (i was hoping for an oilier texture) and would’ve benefited from a tad more complexity

Nose

Discrete smoke. Leather armchair, tobacco, citruses, salted caramel, walnut and cooking oil.

Taste

Oily. Sweet start: caramel and marzipan. Then it will turn to: salt, pepper, peat, smoke and ash.

Finish

Long. Caramel, ash and oak.

Comments

Nice game with the sweet, salty, bitter, spicy flavors.

Nose

wow incredibly balanced smoke nose! leather, tobacco, a bit of lemon and sea salt. Incredibly good balanced and complex. I have not been a Talisker fan so far but this one seems to change my opinion :-)

Taste

now I have salted almonds and a bit of caramel. Generally a bit more fruity than the nose so oranges and black berries. Still lovely

Finish

Also the finish is excellent but could be longer as you do not want to give this taste up!

Comments

For sure the best Talisker I have ever tried. I am not sure if I had such a great "smokey" whisky so far and this one is not from Islay! :-)

Great job Talisker!

n: the finest and best integrated smoke you can imagine. lots of leathery notes,
lady´s handbag, roasted nuts, oranges, sunflower oil, linen,
in the background we have salted caramel. getting truly coastal with the time.
sandy beach in the sun, limestone. wonderfully balanced and very complex!
I could nose this for hours. reminds me bit of a brora I could taste.
t:  perfect copy of the nose, the salted caramel is a tad stronger but mind you
it is not sticky at all. very mineral on the palate. just wonderful
f: unfortunately only medium in length, salty, perhaps a little ginger
comments: perhaps the best tali I had so far. absolutely sublime as
                  charles mclean would say.
93/100

Finish

Im Abgang spürt man das Alter, Mund und Nase wirken erstaunlich frisch. Schöne ausgewogene Eichennoten. Sehr gelungen

‘An oak fest’

N: Incredibly young nose, vibrant, woody, wow - intense, like an HP21 on heat. Concentrated [Brora 30 like] cow pats, oak, sherry and old/salty trawler nets. The peat levels are deep and its all so vibrant, very Talisker but thicker and richer than I’ve tried before

T: Big hit of wood spice which then mellows - pepper and then more spice appears before revealing the brine and oil

F: Mellows out to become sweeter with more pepper and woody - it unravels, then winds itself up again as the wood spice comes in and out again in waves. Malty sweetness comes through but no fruits on display - instead its caramel, vanilla and cocao wrapped in oak. This is an oak fest where the wood is always on your side, as much as you’d want without it going over. Finishes with a funny saline fuzziness on the roof of the mouth, like a cornstarch film you get after eating Greggs pasties - oh the humanity!

C: Lots here, much movement with many ups and downs. Not an easy whisky this which needs time. The journey is where this Talisker is at because the destinations are unfortunately less imaginative. Amazing in part and one-dimensional in others. Odd finish.
