From the Wilson & Morgan website:

Caol Ila 18yo "Sherry Wood" butt #10028
The success of our first full sherry Caol Ila was expected. We knew we had a gem, and everybody loved it: when peated Islay meets Oloroso sherry, the result can often be stunning. If we have to nitpick, this sister cask is just as sherried as #10027 but maybe a tad smoother and even better integrated. Again, expect lots of tar, leather, liquorice, with an aromatic herbal overtone to add complexity to the winey and smoky character. And if you pay attention, also a stunning note of orange rind. This is a bottling which will become legendary for its quality and rarity (how many sherried Caol Ilas have you had a chance to taste?), so hurry up to pick one because there aren’t many around!

Perfectly balanced. Each sip opens new notes. Absolutely not typical Caol Ila. I will certainly try again in winter. It seems to me then it will open completely.

    What a dram!
Warm start of sherry, then some pepper and spice in the middle part - finally comes the well-known Caol Ila with some iodine and phenol ... excellent!
    I love him :-)

expected more, but in principle it was very good, there was not enough of something for stepping into the big leagues

N: Soot, kippers and garden plant grow-spray.
T: Why don't they make smoky biscuits with an oily-treacle, herbal, grain-sugar complex? It’s certainly a combination that works beautifully here.
F: Lots of smoke, chewy smoke.
C: Fabulous, one of the best whiskies of the show. Blog

    Color: amber
Nose: very nice smoky, slightly spicy, slightly tarry and sweet! Perfect nose, now smell the subtle sherry, which certainly does not dominate in this whisky. Plus point.
Taste: yes, with the taste the sherry is totally in balance with the other flavors, very subtle. Even the little salt, what I discover is completely in balance with this beautiful Whisky!
Total: an exceptional, beautiful, subtle whisky.
    Points: 92

    Class: TOP.
