Not bad, rich, not very difficult, but it is solid and powerful, strong such a sweet-grassy middle peas.

Nose

Clear, dry, somewhat spirituous, herbal notes, dried medicinal herbs - yarrow, motherwort, valerian; mixture notes, tablets in the shell, dusty boards.

Taste

Powerful, dense, sweet-medicinal, herbs, herbal bitterness, tablets, light citrus notes, creamy confectionery shades, burnt sugar.

Finish

Spicy, sweet, ginger biscuits, herbal motifs, creamy confectionery notes, lemon peel.

Weird Auchentoshan notes (which is actually kinda funny that they have them, not unlike the cheesiness you get in a Jura, but also different. Anyhow funny that Toshan has them b/c of full triple distillation the distillate should be rather neutral, but it isn't. If you like Auchentoshan, this one is for you, clean and unadulterated juice. Young but also exiting.

Pleasantly subtle nose, the alcohol holds back. Otherwise relatively flat, little fruit.

The alcohol is very present in the taste.
A slightly metallic taste tone.

Nice warm finish, medium length.

Not sure why the rating is rather low but for me this is very powerful, super fruity, quite sweet but still balanced and complex - all set for dessert! Fantastic!

Nose

Honey comb, overripe tropical fruits, pineapple galore, mango, passion fruit, hints of herbal spices and green tea, dry hay, wet tobacco, whiffs of smoke - great!

Taste

Punchy, oily, creamy, sirupy, good sweetness, more tropical fruits, pineapple in sugar sirup, sugar glazed apples, little peaty, spices, pepper, herbal, some oak wood - excellent!

Finish

Long, warm, super fruity, little peaty, little grapefruit or honey pomelo?, more herbal and more green tea - anyways, very good!

Unusually concentrated and powerful whisky from Lowlands.

Nose

Floral. Fruits, vanilla, caramel, spicy oak and herbals.

Taste

Powerful, oily. Fruits, pepper, sawdust, caramel and citruses.

Finish

Medium length, spicy.

Nose

Caramel “Barberry”, “Snowball”, fruit drops, broken young tree branch, lemonade, marshmallow, vanilla, creamy fudge. Raw carrots. Flowers A little furniture lacquer. Slightly spirited. 21

Taste

Moderate, moderately dry. A little bit biting (degree is felt). Powerful. Black pepper, pickled vegetables, barberry, ascorbic. 21

Finish

From medium to long, warming, enveloping. 21
Pleasant, even whisky, strong middle peasants. The balance is 21.
Power disappears with water, instead it becomes softer and more drinkable, but it is also made easier. Bitterness is added.

paradoxical adventure with a triple distillation that gives it a lot of sweetness and a degree of alcohol that allows to release malty scents, spicy and fruity long enough!

Nose

vanilla and creamy sweetness

Taste

the almond, then the vanilla again, then the rise of the alcohol is always surprisingly fresh, sweet and fruity on lemon and orange, spicy return in the end!

Finish

average on the same flavors, quite intense

Alcohol is very prominent here. Slightly fruity, but especially sharp.
Not very complex or in balance. But good to have tasted.

Tasteful thanks to the traditional Cyrus sample swapping, which is always a large sample that takes at least two tastings. Stylishly like my former Dalmore 1994 Chieftain's .

Nose

Malt, malted, with a little citrus. For grass, hazelnuts, orange, tangerine, honey and vanilla. The surface is dry, but when you "immerse" a little in it, it will settle. (84 b)

Taste

Percentages of alcohol are quite creamy, malt, sweetened vanilla, fresh wood. Grep and at the end a light butterfly in the standard. (84 b)

Like the Valinch pre-2012 i've had before, this one is also quite restless when you just open it. Last time, after pretty much 6 months air in de bottle it became one of my favorite whisky's. Especially with the right amount of added water. A big surprise, considering i don't really like most Auchentoshan's.

So i'll leave it for a while and re-rate later.
Seems to have a similar profile as the one i had years before.

Update: it's good, but not as good as the earlier one.

This is a most extraordinary whisky. It took me a long time getting to know it. At the end: lots of water (1 : 1) and lots of time in the glass and it gives off aromas and flavours in abundance.
Whre other Auchentoshans seem to be designed, this is more of a coincidence. I like it. It is different. And it challenges me.

Nose

w/o water - alcohol heavy. closed. Licor 43. Fruit bitters.
w/ water - spicy, cinnamon induced candy (NL: kaneelkussentjes). Sweet and sour citrus like limoncello.

Taste

w/o water - did not try it without water
w/ water - sweet fruity arrival. development to delicious dry bitter citrus fruits.

Finish

Ginger flavoured citrus finish

a fairly simple but intensely sweet Whisky. mainly a medley of lemon, creme brulee and vanilla which pretty much doesn't change on the palate. one interesting thing though, it has a very particular taste, like when you do the 69 with a woman on a hot summer day. yes, sweaty vagina (not in a bad way).

in the end, it was very cheap back then and still is. quite enjoyable value for money Whisky. my bottle is open since summer 2013 and it's still very much intact.

Probably not the most extremely complex Auchentoshan, but I think this is a very, very nice dram, that may be liked by people who are into the fruity and flavoured side of whiskies. Or women (no sexism here). Regarding to its low price, this is a very affordable cask strengh and an excellent introduction to this kind of whisky. Nevertheless, it loses point on this lack of complexity and the finish really too short.

Nose

Neat : Very soft and very nosable despite a high ABV. On Crême brûlée orange perfumed. Some floral notes. Not very different with water, only a little easier.

Taste

Excellent body. Nicely drinkable, even without water. The wood influence is minimized here, quite only the spirit talks. Still on Crême brûlée and citrus fruits. With water it become fruitier and very soft, some hints of vanilla appear, and an interesting sour feeling comes up. I personnaly like it a lot.

Finish

Short, but fruity, a little on orange and deliciously sour.

dram for people with a sweet tooth or those who are on a budget. A decent introduction to Auchentoshan and a very affordable cask strength.

Nose

Crème brûlée and some brown sugar. Despite the high ABV it has a very soft nose. Water reveals something flowery and orange zest.

Taste

Again sweetness of vanilla pudding with orange zest topping. Near the end you'll find some caramelised almonds.

Finish

Nutty and creamy
