Whisky Reviews for Tobermory 1972 AC

11 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 91.54 points

  1. Ras Mazunga scored this whisky 92 points Super Administrator

Starting with a lot of different aroma's; mushrooms, soya, old oak, bbq, plums, tea, chocolate and herbs like rosemary.
After a while the whisky gets more balanced and becomes waxy with tea. Suddenly I smell acetone. The palate has something fresh with blood oranges and peaches, the nose has beeswax, oak and tea. The finish is a bit dry, oaky and a bit bitter like a bitter peach.

mint, cough medicine- (stop hoest - Red Band candy) and dates
    • Taste
warming spices, vanilla, sigar and syrup

    Tasting Notes from Whishy-Doris:

Flavor: juicy and fruity aromas of fresh cherry jam, this spicy nutmeg, old wood, furniture polish, suede, old noble brandy.

Taste: old, dry, heavy port wine, pickled plums, full-bodied rum, spicy notes of tobacco, strong espresso, brandy beans.

Finish: long-lasting, soft, warm, again rum, Japanese plum wine, fine smoke, strong cigar, earthy.

Powerful sherry and oak wood - fortunately I rather like this but the oak could well be too loud for somebody else - overall still very good for me
    • Nose
      93 93
Intense, dried fruits, plums, figs, dates, raisins, coffee, burned sugar, oak wood, nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamon, whiffs of leather - great!
    • Taste
      91 91
Punchy, oily, creamy, subtle sweetness, espresso, dark chocolate, deep oak wood, more spices, even a bit herbal, thyme, sage, black tea, walnuts, just hints of dried fruits - very good
    • Finish
      89 89
Long, warm, more oak wood, tannins, a little bit drying, little bitterness

  5. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Somehow, although it is still a very delicious sherry whisky, it seems as if this potential has been given away, on the one hand to get something from Tobermory in it and also just in the finish.
    • Nose
Lots of juicy plum, fig, black tea, black cherry, mushrooms and some soy, cola plant, nutmeg, cinnamon, rum raisins, fine incense sticks, juicy bacon, dresser, like an old cognac
    • Taste
Black tea, Earl Gray as well, chestnut, fig, dates, black cherry, walnut, very dark malt, old leather-bound books, nutmeg, rosemary, dry raisins, dark hams in honey
    • Finish
Unfortunately not as long as expected, dry, chestnut, raisins and dark malt

    • Nose
Soy sauce, leather, pork from the smoker, dried plums, dark chocolate, tobacco, quite smoky, nutmeg, neat oak
    • Taste
Burnt berry jam, some peat, nutty sweet, tobacco, also slightly sour

    • Nose

    • Taste
Well aged sherry tones that is heavily influenser by Wood and bitterness.a tiuch of peat and smoke

If somebody tells you that all old single malts taste similar. Do not
accept this generalization. They certainly exhibit similar
characteristics, since most of these old sherry bombs have seen very
similar wood. Yet, they still are worlds apart when it comes to smell
and taste development. Overall this one is too bitter for my taste. A
minor complaint, but with a little more fruitiness, this could have been
my all-time favorite. Still incredibly good though.
    • Nose
Rich sherry, and surprisingly smoky – like a burning oak forest. The
smokiness reminds me of very oxidized peat. Something you would expect
from a dram of this age. Old dusty nutmeg and nail polish. After a while
there is a sweet nuttiness, almost perfumy. At last, herbal candy.
    • Taste
Impactful. More peat smoke. Dried smoked meats and almonds coated in
bitter cocoa powder. The smokiness remains quite prominent, but never
unpleasant. Blood oranges kissed by a flamethrower and doused in motor
oil. Not sure if I like it entirely, but it is extremely interesting
      nonetheless.
    • Finish
Long and bitter. Like chewing on a very well air-dried smoke sausage.

Un bon peaty sherry, plus sherry que peaty...
    • Nose
Anis, fleurs d'oranger, oranges confites. C'est puissant, frais et sucré.Genièvre.
    • Taste

dark amber color, well defined sherry nose but quite fresh and fruity, orange, citrus, mandarin, varnish, leather, tobacco, chocolate. Mouth a little less fresh and fruity, more tobacco, varnish, dried fruit, chocolate, light smoke, spices, some wood. Quite powerful, dry, not very thick but very classy. Long finish, dry, woody, some nuts and spices. Superb nose, the suite is slightly worse, but it's a pretty dry sherry that we could take for a big Speyside.
