Whisky Reviews for Ledaig 1997 MoS

- Nose: Different kinds of roasted nuts, cashews, almonds, pine nuts, on top of sherry sweetness and traces of rancio. The smoke is well integrated, lingering in the background. It is not peaty, rather of the charcoal, bonfire type, reminding me of Lapsang Suochong tea.
Taste: Again that nuttiness, combined with a resinous element (pine cones, douglas fir resin). Some medicinal, herbal aspects begin to emerge on the backpalate, reminiscent of cough syrup and different types of ointments.
Finish: Medium, with the drier, herbal elements getting increasingly dominating - a bit too much for my taste.
Conclusion: Nice dram, but there could be a bit more of that smoke for my taste, and less dryness on the other hand. 87 points.
- Nose: Moderate, but noticeable smoke, traces of orange and vanilla, pineapple in rum. The alcohol is quite perceptible, but not unpleasant-pungent, but as a pleasant rum pot aroma. Very pleasant even. Smoke again after a while, but more subtle.
Mouth: again the rum pot, citrus flavors, oranges ...
Finish: medium in length, complex with smoke, citrus, and at the end of a certain maltiness.
Conclusion: I am pleasantly surprised. Not the expected "typical" smoke / sherry combo with high alcohol strength, but much more complex than that. Great nose and great drinkable!
